Because they taste good together. Going by your logic, there's no reason to put lettuce, tomatoes, or onion [salad ingredients all] on their either.
Flavors are meant to compliment each other. They aren't special built for a singular purpose.
Maple tastes good on pancakes, . . . and bacon. etc.
