I doubt an ethical doctor is trying to get anyone hooked. However, I think some are pretty careless with prescriptions.
In September of 2003, I had a serious bullriding wreck that almost killed me. I spent time in the Ft. Worth hospital and was given pain meds. The meds made me sick so I said that I'd just tough it out and deal with the pain. I was released from the hospital two weeks later and the doctor gave me a prescription for pain killers that was refillable for the next YEAR. I told him I didn't need it, but he insisted. I got one prescription filled and it's still in a drawer in the bathroom completely full.
