I don't get why people are so negative about this movie, I thought it was great. Best team up for an end battle that I can remember. Cyclops and Jean were done almost to perfection, Magneto was fantastic with Fassbender turning in his usual great performance, Wolverine's inclusion was great and lasted for just the right amount of time, and Apocalypse's scheme made sense and I liked the way he was played by Oscar Isaac.
Spoiler!
Of course it has nitpick things; Mystique is useless in this movie outside of busting Nightcrawler out and then right before she gets choked out by Apocalypse towards the end, I'm not pissed about making her a heroic figure as much as her useless part in this particular movie. They used Jackman again as Wolverine, which I think sucks in one key way, it means that if they're going to use him after the last Wolverine movie they'll either use ole Jackman for him until the day he dies, or they'll reset the entire cast and I really like this cast of Cyclops, Jean, Storm, and Nightcrawler so it'll be sad if they reboot it with a new cast. People complain about Jean and the Pheonix being too soon, GTFO with that, she's had it since she was younger than she's portrayed in this film and I thought it was perfectly used. I like the correlation where in Ratner's abomination X3, Xavier puts barriers in her mind to shield Phoenix, in this movie he begs her to unleash it, its a great contrast and I really enjoyed it. With Charles asking her to unleash it, she uses it out of necessity to save everyone which is how I wanted it to be portrayed. It was really well done, and her floating out there before she unleashes then floating back, total badass. I really liked how they formed the Xmen in the end and how they took out the all powerful Apocalypse. Another small nitpick about Apocalypse is their need to give the villain new powers when they don't need it. Usually I don't complain about this part, but with Apocalypse you could've easily had him use alien technology, increase in size, and form his hands into weapons for smashing, stabbing, basically being a god. In this one he gets the X3 Phoenix treatment to where I wonder why he needs Magneto in the first place if he can just destroy an entire city and reform it to make his temple.
Overall I loved this movie, it's the other side of the coin to Days of Future Past, where DoFP merged future and past together really well, this movie merged the present with a really satisfying lead up to future installments with a great young cast. I hope the studio gives Brian Singer one more Xmen movie and doesn't just jump ship like DC is doing because they didn't make a Billion dollars at the box office.
Also I was afraid that I would see Sansa Stark instead of Jean Grey. I saw Sansa, but I heard Jean. Sophie Turner did a really good job, as well as the guy that played Cyclops and the girl that played Storm. Very welcome surprises.
