The gas gauge is definitely a sending unit or it wouldn't work over half a tank. A ground issue there pegs the gauge full or empty.

Hmm well with my pickup the needle for my gas gauge would twitch around when I turned the signal on. I was having troubles with my cruise not working correctly all the time. It would work for a while and then just quit working. All my issues turned out to be due to a faulty ground connection.
