But he's also aging and corners don't age gracefully. Unless they can agree on a deal where the Chiefs can get out after 2 years with relative ease, they need to move on.

I think he's incredibly important to this defense and since Sutton doesn't have a Plan B, having a guy that's able to play a plus press-man is vital. If we're forced to replace him with a guy Fleming's caliber, this defense may well fall apart.

If I thought we had a DC who could deal with an average #2 CB better then I'd be less concerned about Smith.

As it is, though, I think you have to consider bringing him back. In the end, I think I'd pass but I'm not going to whistle past the graveyard and pretend like it couldn't very well end up detonating the season if we don't do an adequate job replacing him. And I won't pretend like replacing him will be easy.
