That isn't quite how I read the situation at all. The Jays as an organization have not cared about home field advantage at all since they clinched on Wednesday. They asked him if he wanted to start for his own personal accolades (winning the Cy), but he didn't care about that at all (presumably because he's won the Cy before) and thought this was the best way for him to prepare for the playoffs.
