Ryan O'Reilly may have gotten a little carried away at the cottage.
The Middlesex County branch of the Ontario Provincial Police has charged the Buffalo Sabres forward with impaired driving, according to Craig Needles of 980 News. O'Reilly was charged after he allegedly hit a Tim Hortons location in Lucan, Ont., with his pickup truck around 4 a.m. on Thursday.
"We're very concerned about the number of impaired drivers out there," OPP Constable Liz Melvin told reporters. "We encourage everyone to make alternative arrangements and not choose to drive with any amount of alcohol in their system."
O'Reilly was born in nearby Clinton, Ont., and has a cottage on Lake Huron. He is scheduled to appear in court in London, Ont., on August 20.
O'Reilly was awarded the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct in 2014. Buffalo acquired the 24-year-old from the Colorado Avalanche in June and signed him to a seven-year contract extension with an average annual value of $7.5 million.
