The next kid can choose to play in the SEC knowing that he will get every benefit if the doubt on draft day or play in a lesser league where all-pro talent barely gets you a camp invite because you're playing against a bunch of players who couldn't get into a real conference.

Well, I think it's more along the lines of - Playing for a premiere football program will give you the best of everything, it will put you in the best position to succeed. You will have the best facilities, coaching, the best talent around you, you'll play on better teams, you'll get experience in big games and in the posteseason.
On the other hand, he could play at a doormat school in a middling conference, in a program that has a revolving door at head coach and where he isn't going to have any of the advantages that a major football program would provide in terms of the talent around him on the field and on the sideline. Unless you have eligibility problems or you don't think you can win enough playing time at a bigtime school, and you think you can start at Kansas, there's no advantage to be had at all.
How could someone advise their son or daughter to make that decision?
