It stands to reason that the 49ers
did interview him and in the course of that interview presumably asked the same basic crap you'd ask anyone in a job interview; what drives you? What are your long term goals in this job? Blah blah blah. Really, the kind of questions that would likely have brought up any doubts he may have had.
There's a pretty decent chance that he did mention that and the Niners took him anyway. Now perhaps he just 'coach speaked' his way through all the interviews and obviously that would be a little worse, but still not beyond the pale, IMO.
Ultimately, if he knew in college and didn't tell them, then I
guess I could see holding that against him (I still don't like Roaf for that very reason) but if the Niners didn't interview him, if they did answer him and his responses were sincere or if he simply didn't
know he was going to do this when they drafted him, then he owes them precisely dick.
