Aaron Rodgers got $33M in cash as a signing bonus 3 years ago. His year 1 cap was $11M. Now Houston wont get as much money as Rodgers but it will maybe be only $10-20 million less. The prorated money of a bonus like that basically covers the cap space the Chiefs have so it doesnt really matter how low his base salary is year 1.

I understand the cap just fine. I'm talking long term, a bigger bonus keeps their base salary lower, thus freeing up more cap space to sign other players.
