People prefer online communication because of the false intimacy it provides. I read a pretty interesting study on it at some point in the past. People think they're advancing their relationships when basically in reality they aren't.
I am one of those people who has no outside contact aside from grocery store trips and anyone who isn't like that is just as mystifying to me as my life is to you. But, hey, no two people are the same. Variety is the spice of life.
