This is a character driven series, not an action series. It is an above average show that has done a pretty good job of showing the changes that Marco has undergone since being left with the Khan. I enjoyed it, but I went in without expecting it to be GoT.
If it catches on well enough they will probably throw more money at it for the next season. Kublai never really stops warring for a few decades, and at one point has a navy of 4000+ ships try to invade Japan.
Overall it will be an average show that is good but never great.
