More efficient, probably... full potential of those weapons, probably not. It would be interesting to see, for sure, since so much of the pro debate around Smith isn't about him, but his coaches, WRs, offensive line, etc.

Alex has played extremely well since Harbaugh righted the ship. His level of play has not dropped since that time. He went to an NFC title game that was fumbled away on special teams, and was playing very well when he went out with the concussion.
He then goes to KC, leads the team to an 11-5 record and leads the offense without Charles to 44 points in a loss to the Colts. This season, he is still playing the same style. Just do what it takes to win the game and take care of the ball. 3 picks in game 1, only 1 in the 7 games since.
Kap had a season and a half of success. He was something defenses hadn't seen, and had trouble with, and after some time to scheme against him, his level of play has dropped considerably. Boneheaded throws, turnovers, sacks he could and should avoid, right now there has to be some sense of unease in the organization dropping all that cash on him and the return they are getting right now.
The guy has all these weapons and still isn't getting the job done. Gore, Davis, Boldin, Crabtree, Johnson, LLoyd, I mean Jesus man, what more does a so called "elite" QB need to succeed? What happens when those weapons start leaving and aren't adequately replaced?
Smith is 5-3 with absolute shit to work with at O-line and WR. Bad coaching/playcalling cost us a couple games or we would be even better. Alex is making the most of what he has, without turning the football over. Kap has everything you could want, and is still only 4-4.
Niners kept the wrong guy, and when Harbaugh bails, who knows what a dumpster fire Kaepernick is going to turn into.
