It was handled poorly.
But handling an administration and PR situation poorly is not abusing a wife or child. It's not even in the same stratosphere as committing a crime.
The NFL needs to get it's shit together about this sort of thing but domestic violence is not the NFL's fault.
If the NFL is strict about punishment, people get pissed and called it the No Fun League.
If the NFL isn't strict then people get pissed and act like it committed the crime itself.
