They got locked into multi-picture deals when they did First Class. I don't remember where Fassbender's career was then, but all Jennifer Lawrence had done at that point was Winter's Bone.
She probably could have gotten out of it if she really wanted to (and I'm guessing that leverage is why she got to wear a bodysuit instead of paint), but if she sticks with it she could get a Downey-in-Avengers type payday down the line.
