KU gets upset by lower seeds virtually every year under Self... because they rarely play higher seeds in the tourney.
Only 3 games out of 36 has KU played a higher seeded team. Those were 1 seeded UNC ('12), 2 seeded Michigan St. ('09) and 3 seeded Georgia Tech ('04). And KU was only 1 seed lower than each of those.
Despite supposedly being poor in the tournament, KU has 26 wins over that time. Only one team has more - Roy Williams\UNC with 29.
Here is the success of the teams KU lost to -
2014 - Stanford - still standing
2013 - Michigan - Championship game
2012 - Kentucky - National Champs
2011 - VCU - Final Four
2010 - Northern Iowa - Sweet 16 (f u Farok)
2009 - Michigan St - Championship Game
2008 - ya baby!!
2007 - UCLA - Final Four
2006 - Bradley - Sweet 16 (this one also hurt)
2005 - Bucknell - Round of 32 (This one hurt)
2004 - Georgia Tech - Championship Game
The point being... KU has lost to teams that went far for the most part... there are only 3 teams that didn't go to the final four. The majority of those losses were not flukes by any stretch of the imagination.
