The point was that a 30 game season tells you more about how good you are than a single good or bad game. It's why conference tournaments aren't looked at as having the same kind of value as winning the conference over the duration of the regular season. That's how you truly differentiate the best programs (KU, Duke, UNC, MSU, UK) from the merely very good ones.
