We got the free* upgrade in Jan 2013. We paid the insurance since then. When we got the phone and insurance the S3 was still the newest Galaxy so prices for S2 parts would have been higher as would the cost of the phone. If I did not have the insurance I likely would have eaten the loss and not repaired it. As it was I still made a small profit on the phone when I sold it. Nothing like I usually make when I sell my phones in mint condition with the transferrable ST warranty.

But all things considered I feel fortunate to not lose money on the phone. The sale of the phone helped finace my new S4 while my son gets my old S3. Also warrantied.

Without the insurance the phone stays broken in the drawer.
