Coming out this Friday. I was really excited about it, but after hearing that they changed John Constantine to Johanna, and they have a tranny playing Desire, I have my concerns.
I have no issue with organic diversity, but this screams forced, and that's never a good sign for the show as a whole. |

I just finished the season. I enjoyed it, the first half of the season much more than the second half, but whooo buddy do they force THE MESSAGE in this show. I know we've gone round and round and round talking about "wokeism" and how it applies to Hollywood and entertainment in 2022, but damn do they make it a point to paint the world as an alphabet person's dream world (no pun intended). It's completely over the top and in your face. Bit of a shame, because the storylines are entertaining and don't get overrun by the forced wokeness when those storylines are being played out. But in the buildups and intermissions, just brace yourself for it. That said, I'd recommend putting it in the queue. |
And yes, the female Constantine thing annoyed me (and they woke-ified HER, too). They never address it, but maybe she's some relative of John somehow someway that is a magic user just as he is (thin af, but I'm trying). Jenna Coleman did a good job playing her, and she's really easy on the eyes.
*EDIT - Nope, they gender swapped the character https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/di...ff/ar-AA11c0D3 |
Really?! I enjoyed the series and never felt subject to an agenda.
Of course, I'm not invested in prior versions of the story. |

What you have are gods with powers that are completely full of themselves. Huge character flaws. Flamboyant in nature. To me this is like a musical or an Abba album: I should hate it but don't. I think The Wall and Willie Wonka are the only musicals I actually like. There are exceptions. I hate theater. This lends itself to being very theatrical and yet (1/2 way through) I'm really liking it. I'm not done. I might hate it at the end. Right now though I'd rate it in the top 30% of stuff Netflix has made. |
Twitter verse is alive with embarrassing takes about how people need to watch this show 4 times or let it run to completion even if you aren't watching it to pump up its metrics. Sounds like it's in danger of being canceled.

That said, I'll admit that the hyper focus on wokeism from both sides tends to get in the way with all movies and shows these days, and unfortunately that can become a bigger story than the show itself. |
I agree with Bowser. It's pretty blatant, but the show was still good.
My biggest issue is that it felt like it peaked with episodes 5 & 6, which were phenomenal. After that, it definitely wasn't nearly as good, but still solid and worth a watch. Just felt like they added a bunch of new characters in the middle of the season, and it disrupted the flow/momentum. |
Maybe I am just not that sensitive to the wokeness others are seeing here because I can't recall any 'blatantness'.
I am assuming others are comparing this show to a comic book or some other more recent source for these characters- and that is where they are seeing discrepancies in portrayal. I didn't read any comics, and I watch a smattering of DC/Marvel movies, but dont care snout to keep up with their respective universes. The old gods of mythology could assume any form they wanted to carry out their kinkiness. Every story teller tells the story for the current day. If the story has to stay true to the original telling - then all the characters of any gender would be portrayed by swarthy greek men. Carry on gentlemen. The whole woke/antiwoke thing seems a bunch of puffery to me. |

It felt like more than half the characters were gay and there was a tranny.
LMAO How is that not blatant? |
Have you seen the new season of RuPaul’s Drag Queens? They’re all dudes dressed up as women! If that’s not woke culture, then I don’t know what is.
