I think Townsend might be the superior choice, and the day after his signing is the day we released DC (although we were likely to do that anyways).

I would love if the team decided not to carry any punters for the year or just specific games just to **** with others teams heads.

KC_Lee 04-28-2020 07:03 AM

A battle the likes of which KC Chiefs' fans have not seen in a generation.

Brings this to mind...

Theres an entire generation who have known nothing but punting excellence from the Chiefs.

The punters before Colquitt were Stephen Cheeks and Jason Baker who I don't even remember.

I mentioned this in the draft thread but I know this kid. He went to the same kicker camps as my friends kid. Will be interesting.

Small detail but worth keeping an eye on in the battle to replace Colquitt.</p>&mdash; Matt Derrick (@mattderrick) <a href="https://twitter.com/mattderrick/status/1255050877167194112?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 28, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Well, whichever way we go, our punter is gonna have some sweet hair!

No clue about cheeks but I remember baker, did cheeks even attempt a punt?

I wonder if they gave a hint to Townsend that Colquitt was on his way out or that he’d legitimately have a shot at the starting job.

I'd think so, my guess is this decision and approaching him about his contract was made before the draft.

The last 2 punters to start at punter instead of Colquitt were Nick Murphy and Steve Weatherford, Weatherfords actually gone on to have a good career.

Here's a trivia question... who was the last punter to start a game for the Chiefs not named Dustin Colquitt?

Nick Murphy in the last game of the 2004 season against the Chargers.

That game was in San Diego.

Dick Vermeil and Marty Schottenheimer were the HC's.

Trent Green and Doug Flutie were the starting QB's.
