Dolphins Defender tears ACL sacking QB softly

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...g-weight-on-qb

I missed this yesterday. Apparently the Dolphins lineman avoided crushing car by shifting his body weight to the side and ended up tearing his ACL. The NFL won't care because it's primarily concerned with QB safety, but interesting nonetheless.

Such a stupid rule.

Par for the course for NFL rulemaking.

At least mega-star QB phenom Derek Carr was uninjured on the play.

Awful rule that is obviously inconsistently officiated.

That's the biggest problem, IMO. I said as much to a friend on FB yesterday...

The problem with this new rule is not that it's unfairly protecting QB's, it's that it is being used to manipulate the flow of games. The rule states that a defensive player cannot put their full weight on the QB, which of course Clay Matthews did not do but was still penalized. Meanwhile, in Pittsburgh, when a Pittsburgh defender drilled Patrick Mahomes into the ground and clearly put all of his weight on him, no flag.

The NFL has a multi-million dollar replay system and yet they have a cadre of penalties that are complete judgement calls by the refs. It is infuriating as a fan to watch 3 games on Sunday and see completely different interpretations of the rules in all 3. Spot fouls on PI, several 15-yard, automatic first down subjective calls - these penalties dramatically alter the flow of the game and aren't called with any consistency at all. The NFL needs to clean this up.

And only officiated against certain players

How the **** a scrub like Alex gets that call is beyond reasoning. Mathews babs a target on his back.

hearing from the officials every 3rd play, gets old very quickly.

gblowfish 09-24-2018 11:40 AM

I'm surprised he wasn't penalized for roughing himself.

yep. there's a reason you never saw Manning carry the ball on a designed run.

you don't take a Ferrari down a country gravel road.

James Harrison was about to rip off Skip Bayless' head debating the QB tackling rules.

Skip " I don't care I want to see star QBs"

Harrison " if we don't wrap up and hit, QBs with any sense will spin out of arm tackles. It's our job to stop the offense".

It began with Harrison asking Bayless if he ever played, and Skip said no.

Cowherd was making the same point this morning. The NFL is about star QBs, he loves the new rules.

Part of what makes this offense deadly is the threat of the option. You remove that and it changes the entire offense.

The reason wasn't because of injury....it was because Manning was a ****ing turtle out there.
