Arkansas Roadie
My mom is going to be 85 in a couple months, and she's getting very frail, so I'm doing a quick drive down to see her on Sunday. Leave tomorrow, come back Monday.
I'm going down I-49 from KC to Ft. Smith, then US 71 to US 270 to Hot Springs, then Arkansas 5 to Benton, AR. I've been through NW Arkansas and Hot Springs many many times. For you guys who hang out down there, any places I should check out to take a quick break off the road, or have a meal at a can't miss kind of place? I'll go from Bella Vista all the way to Ft. Smith during lunchtime. Over to around Hot Springs for dinner time. Any recommendations? I go past Lake Nimrod, so I can look for Nimrods while I'm there.... |

The term "roadie" has other connotations, for what it's worth.
...I was a bit horrified when you mentioned your mom...but then I read the rest and calmed down. |
If you go early, stop by Haven 55 in Pineville MO. Craft beer and seriously good eats in an old mill overlooking Little Sugar Creek.
|
I was in Hot Springs last weekend for the horse races. I'd recommend either Fisherman's Wharf or Porter House.
For lunch, if you like Sushi go to the Sushi house in Rogers. It's right next to the interstate. If you want some "eye" candy, go to Twin Peaks at the Pennical. |

Yes to this. |
Grand Lake or Gurdon to see that light thingy.
|
I'd go to the Robin Hood Hills site. But I'm a freak like that.
|
Arkansas is beautiful, enjoy the drive...

I've wanted to check out Turpentine Creek, but haven't made it yet. Its east of Rogers, I think.
|
Depends on the type of BBQ you like, but McClards in Hot Springs is a long-time local favorite.
