****ing Cellular Companies
So my phone is starting to get hostile. About time to put the old girl to bed. It's an old 5s. I'm with Verizon so I got it with the contract. They don't do that anymore and the data is cheaper so it's probably time to change plans.
Talk about a ****ing fisting. So currently, the wife and I are on a plan with 8 Gig. I'm never around wifi, so I plow through the data in season. 40 for my line 40 for her line 90 for data $170/month with a phone every 2 years, which IIRC were like $600. So, for the 2 phones, so the phone accounts for $50/month. So I look at the new plan 40 for my line 40 for her line 90 of data will get me 16GB. Cool! But wait. I gotta come up with a phone. Probably accounts for $50/month. Shit. But data is cheaper. Let's figure out what kind of data I can get for about the cost of a phone every 2 years. Still round about $600 for a phone. ...Let's see....$40 of data, I can get....2 ****ing GB. Mother****ing 2. **** you mother****ers. I get paying for the device. I pay for all the other devices in my life so it makes sense I'd pay for a phone. But it ****ing pisses me off that they took the opportunity to jack the **** out of their prices. The cocksucking mother****ing sacks of ****ing ****. ****. /rant |
I recently switched from Verizon to T-Mobile because of the pricing. Verizon is definitely the best network for coverage, but it wasn't worth the additional price for me. I'm paying $130 per month for 2 phones, 28GB of data per phone (after which it "sometimes drops, but no overage charges), and 14GB of tethering per phone. If you want new phones, tack on about $20-30 per month per phone.

i had my phone stolen a couple days before my plan ran out. so we called optus, told them the situation, and they closed out my account (i wasn't going back to them anyways). three months later we were reviewing our finances, and they were STILL CHARGING me for a reported stolen phone. then it took two months of wrangling with them to pay it back.

I get a kick out of the new thing where they force you to pay for your phone monthly. I don't to rent a phone, I want to buy it out right. But, instead of allowing me to pay the $399.99 or whatever it is just up front so I don't have to worry about it, they make me pay $16 a month in installments no matter what. Just silly.

Eventually Elon Musk and Space X will figure out how to offer satellite internet. While satellite internet already exists, this will be 20x better with use of satellites closer to earth to get a better and faster connection. If they can do that, I'm just going to ditch cell phone companies altogether and use voice through the many free apps as long as you have internet connection.
Apps like text now, etc give you a FREE number that you can send as many text messages as you want and you can place as many calls as you want. If I had wifi wherever I went, there really wouldn't be a need for cell phone service. |
are they going to 28 day billing cycles so they can bill you 13 times in a year?

Holy **** am I glad that I'm still grandfathered with AT&T. $170 for my wife, me, and mother-in-law (not a smartphone). Unlimited data and cheap phones with upgrades.

5 phone lines.
Unlimited data with high speed up to 2.5gb then 3g speeds. Unlimited talk and text. $100 per month. Cricket Yes, it is still bring your own phone but its up to you how much you want to spend on a phone. |
You should be able to buy the Phone from Apple (they sell vendor neutral Iphone's) and then get Verizon (or whatever carrier you want) service on the phone. We provide Iphone's for our whole office and that's how they are purchased.
The downside is you have to pay the whole price up front. However, it's worth it in the end not to be tied to a carrier contract or lease. |

Said goodbye to AT&T and their outrageous prices when the 4S bricked. iPhone 5s for $150 and Straight Talk for $47/month and never looked back.
