Alamo Drafthouse - Have you been to one?
We're getting one in Springfield. It sounds great! However, this is Springfield...the buckle of the conservative bible belt. The Alamo Drafthouse will be renovating a movie theater that's closing after 20 years in business. Said movie theater used to sell beer. Of course, we can't have that.
Read this article: http://www.news-leader.com/story/new...-say/87388490/ I guarantee you that some group will rise up and call for a total ban on alcohol sales in movie theaters period. Heaven forbid that they choose to go to one of the other theaters that doesn't serve alcohol if they're so worried about the possibility of minors drinking. I think this sounds like a cool place. I hope they survive here. I'm wondering if anyone who's been to one has ever had any negative experiences due to the alcohol, and just what the general atmosphere is like. |
It's the perfect theater going experience to be honest.

14 of their locations are in Texas and (outside of Austin) that state isn't exactly known for it liberal way of life. Texas still has 11 dry counties.
Alamo is great, but hard to explain why. Its the little stuff like showing old cartoons or parts of 70s TV shows before the previews start. Having the servers walk around is a bit strange to get used to but once you are into the movie you don't even notice them. |
I never understood why anyone would want to drink at the movies. When I drink I have to drain the anaconda seemingly every 30 minutes or so. Can't be getting up and disturbing everyone at the movies that often, not to mention missing scenes...

Alamo is cool, very cool, but "perfect"? Maybe I just need to try it out more often. |
Alamo is very artsy and has a very hipster feel to it. At least that's the way I remember it. Very cool break from the normal cattle car theaters, to be sure.

This will never get old to me:

Alamo has the best food. Alamo has a free club that gets you FREE movies. Alamo has movies no other theater shows. And the prices are no different than other movie theaters most of the time. I wish they had big comfortable leather seats but that is the only drawback. |

I'm really looking forward to checking it out once it opens. |

They'll make tons of money because Wehrenberg is about to go out of business. Springfield 11 is OK but just last week I sat in a broken recliner. |
Its my preferred spot to watch movies. For the service you get those tickets are dirt cheap.

Had a great experience there, though not sure if it was superior to Cinetopia
