Rocksmith 2014

Just picked it up on Steam for $10 and the USB cord for $30. I intend to use it to learn to play my new bass and get some Rockband/Guitar hero style fun.

Anyone else have this? How do you like it and how well does it work (outside of being a Ubisoft product)?

I bought it for my son. He started learning to play guitar, but doesn't love practicing. He loves video games so I thought it might be a good way to get him practicing again. It did not.

I tried it. I play guitar, but I do not play video games. It did nothing for me. I thought the timing seemed a bit off. It may be that, since I don't play video games, the visual part of it doesn't work for me. It may help with dexterity and muscle memory, but I can't imagine this is really a great way to learn an instrument.

I played it some. It can teach you to play guitar, but it started to get more advanced than I had time for, still had fun with it.

I enjoy playing it.

Right now The Trooper is my fav song to play through.

I bought it for PS a year or so ago and have really stuck with it. Call it a middle-aged bucket list thing, but I'm hooked.

I probably play an hour to an hour and a half a night 4-5 nights a week.

Totally hooked.

I admit that I spend way more time playing songs than the actual lessons/helping part, but my wife as a (sometimes unwilling) witness will admit, I've made quite a bit of progression in the past 15 months.

WHen I bought the game, I bought my first guitar - had never played a lick of guitar before in my life.

Now, I'm actually playing songs, and consistently hitting 70-85% of the notes accurately, and playing the full amount in many songs.

I've definitely hit 2-3 plateaus where I thought I wasnt going to get any better, but you do get past them, and when you do, it's a blast!

There's nothing more satisfying than when you hit a riff in a Boston song, or Green day,etc.....and you're like "hey...I'm actually doing this!"

The big fun is when you get it on Steam, you have access to modded songs that you can pop right into your DLC folder for Rocksmith (HELLO Van Halen, ACDC, etc....and all the other cool stuff Rocksmith doesnt offer).

I'd give credit to another planeteer who tipped me off on this, but I cant find the thread right now - but anyways, this link will get you started:

http://customsforge.com

The discovery of that link changed my life! :)

Just about anything you've ever wanted to play is there! Some is better quality than others, but most are really good.

You'll want to look for the songs that have 'DD'....which indicates that is has the same teaching formulas built in (so you dont get 100% of the notes right off the bat and get discouraged cause you cant play hot for teacher like Eddie!).

Hope you enjoy

one other note: you want to make sure you're tv is in game mode, or whichever mode has the lowest latency.

Once I got that setup correctly, I have pretty much zero latency, and the music, and the notes (when I'm supposed to strum them), and the sound output are all in perfect sync.

If you have an electric guitar or bass in your home... get this game and the needed cord. Holy shit this is amazing.

Rockband but with real instruments. This is freaking awesome.

/helps greatly that not many songs have called for a G string with my 3 string bass. lol

I liked it for a while. However, I now prefer to hook he cord up to garage band and play along with songs on the Internet.
