Pinkel confirmed that true freshman Drew Lock, who started in Mauk's place Saturday, will remain the starter when the Tigers (4-1, 1-1 SEC) host No. 11 Florida (5-0, 3-0) in a pivotal SEC East contest Saturday.
Lock was 21-of-28 passing for 136 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions in Missouri's win. Lock, an ESPN 300 prospect in the 2015 recruiting class, was highly regarded upon arriving in Columbia, Missouri, as the nation's sixth-ranked pocket passer.
"He did some good things," Pinkel said of Lock. "We feel like he can be a whole lot better. ... The more he plays, the more he's going to get it."
Mauk has started 26 games in his Missouri career. The Tigers are 21-5 when the junior quarterback starts, but he had been inconsistent in his four starts this season, completing 51.8 percent of his passes for 654 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions.
