Buccaneers Currently Prefer Jameis Winston over Marcus Mariota
Updated Jan. 15, 2015*
By Charlie Campbell -*@draftcampbell*

Tampa Bay landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft has sparked a heavy debate with Buccaneer fans and the media covering the team about which quarterback is the top prospect between Florida State’s Jameis Winston and Oregon’s Marcus Mariota. Per our sources with the Buccaneers, the organization currently prefers Winston over Mariota.*

Sources say it is early in the process, and things could change in the months to come. Coaches getting involved in draft evaluations can make a big difference in a team’s thinking. However, our sources don’t view that as likely. They say that as long as Winston interviews well and doesn’t get into trouble in the months leading up to the draft, they feel that he will be the top pick in the draft.*

I would agree with Tampa Bay’s thinking that Winston is the far superior prospect on the field. Off the field, the advantage swings to Mariota, but in speaking with evaluators at other teams, they all feel that Winston is the right pick for the Buccaneers. Sources from the Bucs and multiple teams also agree with my contention that Winston is*a better prospect than Matthew Stafford, Sam Bradford, and Cam Newton, who went first overall in the 2009-2011 drafts.*

A lot can change in the spring months leading up to the draft, but entering the pre-combine training, Winston is the favorite to go first overall to Tampa Bay.*

Winston to Evans.

I love Mariota.

In the last ten years, I'd probably rank them like this (as prospects):

1. Luck

2. Eli
3. Strafford
4. Russell

5-tie. RG3
5-tie. Mariota

6. Newton

7. Winston
8. Bradford

Yes

Pretty much all mocks have Winston at 1 now so I'd say given something crazy he's the guy.

Bradford should not make the list LMAO

It would be hilarious after Peterson, Ray McDonald, Ray Rice, and the Colts rapist LB if Winston went #1 overall. If that was the case, DGB should go no lower than fifth (though he will).

Mocks don't mean anything.

The fact that Winston is a pocket passer with a plus arm, mobility, a huge frame and leading Florida State to a 27-1 record while throwing for 8,000 yards, 65 TD's, 28 INT's and a national championship, is why he'll go number one.

Bold prediction Jan 16

Chip Kelly sells out to draft mariota?

I like Mariota but Winston makes sense for them from a business standpoint.

Depends. Some of the higher ups are getting fed info from scouts or someone connected. But he should be the number one guy, I agree.

That reminds me. Who was that fake scout/mock draft guy from a few years ago? I think tied to the Vikings LMAO

Yeah, keeping Jameis Winston as close as possible to FSU seems like a really good idea.

Of the two, Winston is definitely the safer pick (on the field), but I'd put Mariotas ceiling slightly above Winstons.

Pick your poison, neither will great at the pro level. Winning the Heisman seems to be a curse for QBs at the next level.
