John Elway's Son Jack Arrested: Latest Details and Updates By R. Cory Smith , Featured Columnist Jun 1, 2014 Jack Elway, the son of two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback and current Denver Broncos general manager John Elway, was arrested over the weekend for a domestic violence incident that occurred on Friday. Raquel Villanueva of KUSA provides details of the report: According to court records, Jack Elway faces disturbing the peace and assault charges for the incident that occurred on Colfax Avenue and North Lipan Street. He was bonded out by his father. The bond was set at $550. According to Villanueva, "a protection order was issued for the victim" as well. Brian Maass of CBS4 also gives some information on the situation: Sources familiar with the case say that in the last several days, Elway, who goes by the nickname ‘Jack,’ allegedly pushed a 23-year-old woman out of a moving car near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Lipan Street. It’s unclear the extent of the woman’s injuries but one source familiar with the case told CBS4 the woman had no visible injuries. Court records show the incident took place Friday. ... It’s unclear how long Elway was in jail before being released. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Elway is scheduled to appear in court again June 5 at 8:30 a.m. Mike Klis of the Denver Post has more details: Jack, 24, is a former player at Arizona State. He never materialized with the Sun Devils and ultimately quit the team in 2009 after being one of five quarterbacks in the mix for the starting job. The elder Elway spoke about his son's decision at the time, per ESPN.com: "He sounds better. Just talking to him, it's like the world has been lifted off his shoulders. So I'm happy for him." Paul Sancya/Associated Press Unfortunately, he is now in legal trouble that could hurt his reputation. In addition, any negative news such as this will inevitably bring his father into the spotlight due to John Elway's status around the NFL. Patrick Smyth, who is the director of media relations for the Broncos, addressed the situation but acknowledged the team would not speak any further on it, per Villanueva: "This is a personal family matter and the Broncos will not have any additional comment on it." Whether this situation will reflect negatively on the elder Elway in any way is unclear. While Jack doesn't have a history of legal issues, any arrest will be magnified due to the popularity of his father. The specifics of the current charges aren't fully clear at this time but could come to light in the near future. |
