Archeage

Anyone going to play Archeage?

The game has been out in Korea/Russia for about a year, and now they are in western Alpha. Its sort of WoW-esque but the end game is all open world PVP and pirating type stuff.

And when I say pirating I mean yes, you can PK or PvP anyone in the world, (including your own faction members) steal there boats and cargo, build castles and siege player built housing and fortifications etc etc. Complete with player justice meaning trials and jury duty and even jail time for murdering stealing and pillaging.

Appeals to me because of the PvP aspects and m ainly stuff like this;

If you are playing or going to play hit me up!

Gameplay looks like Rift. It's interesting.

Its being published by Trion, who does Rift too, but the developer is a different company.

Also, its f2p with premium membership to do things like own houses etc.

The game is complete as far as playable but its still in Alpha because of balance and localization etc.

I was playing last night and there are plenty of spelling errors etc, all of the cut scenes are in Korean, and they are currently working out how much western players will grind. For example, a small house in Korea costs 200 Gilda (special currency)

In the western version it will cost 50. They know the US market has a much lower tolerance for mind numbing grindage.

Im going to try and get some PVP kills tonight~

Nice. If it's anything like Rift, I might be down. Rift easily had the best PvP experience for a MMO.

pvp looks like a blast in this. right now its 150 dollar buy in for alpha, but beta is coming up soonish and you can either buy in or get free invite randomly if you sign up. Should be ready to come out by the end of summer.

I'll be playing it. But not doing founder's pack unless I don't get into the first beta.

BigBeauford 05-03-2014 10:44 AM

Yeah, I will wait for it at that price.

I think you can buy into the guaranteed beta pack at 40 bucks

I think it's $50 for beta access.

So if FF is always on, is there no AOE?

hometeam 05-04-2014 11:03 AM

There is AOE, and FF is not ALWAYS on, (the zones go into peace mode at certain times but are in war mode most of the time etc) im also not sure how the AOE works.

In games like UO, it started out being on all the time, later they changed it so that AOEs wouldnt affect current friendlys, so you would have to start attacking some other way before they actually affected them.

My guess is its similar in archeage where your aeo doesnt hit your faction members unless you have already started attacking them.

And of course if you attack your own guys you can be reported for it and you are sent to a jury trial among your peers and they can choose innocent or guilty andput you in jail for a certain amount of time.

Once you are SO bad, you ge tmoved to the Pirate faction (aka your now RED in UO terms) and you are pretty much fair game and so is everyone else to you.

I checked out the beta last weekend. What I experienced was pretty good, but I realize that I didn't get to the real meat of the game yet. It has a lot of sandbox elements and is very much a pvp game based on the economy and trading. But I didn't get to all that yet.

I am definitely willing to throw some money at it because the concept is something I've been wanting for many years and telling anyone who would listen that they should make a game like that. The graphics are great. The freedom to build your character however you want is there. Trade is a big part of the game and a big part of the pvp. Ship battles, city building, etc.

Havent played since they announced the 1.2 launch, will have to get back in and check it out since I paid 150 bucks for a founder pack.

Between this, DayZ, and H1Z1, I am going to be poor and lose my girlfriend when all are fully released.
