I like this kid.

I already know the reaction it's gonna get here but oh well...

I can't figure out how to +rep the kid, but kudos to him.

He's right and his POV provides a good illustration of where reform mathematics is headed.

I would think a little background on what was going on should be required before commending this young girl.

I hate packets

Whenever a kid tries to explain "How to" to adults, I automatically roll my eyes.

Same. I've known some troubled emotionally fragile kids, especially in high school, who make these stands for truth, righteousness, and justice with soaring rhetoric, but when you actually learn about what they are complaining about, you roll your eyes and think "ok, they've got problems".

The kid had a problem with the way the teacher was making them prepare for the STARR test. She basically handed them a packet and told them to look over it.

The teacher's passivity in the face of this kid's insubordination tells me all I need to know about the classroom.

I guarantee I would not sit behind my desk and keep repeating, "Okay. You can leave now" over and over if a kid was dressing me down like that in front of the class, even if the kid was right.

That being said, the kid is right that a teacher who does nothing but hand out packets and draw a paycheck is worthless.

I don't know what a STARR test is.
