Mock (3/2/13)

This time I'm going with a bit of a tougher route -- I assume we get no compensation for Barry Richardson.

1. The Chiefs resign Bowe, and let Dorsey and Albert walk.

2. Cassel is cut. Tyson Jackson stays on board, at reduced salary.

3. The Chiefs land CB Sean Smith.

4. They get one compensatory pick, an extra third (Carr).

On with the show:

1. OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M

The Chiefs aren't going to burn this pick on a QB like SNR is about to in the CP Mock. The Chiefs also aren't going to go DL or CB and allow our franchise QB to get blindside protection from Donald Stephenson for 16 games.

This pick has to be a left tackle. And while I'd prefer Fisher to Joeckel, Fisher is slightly more of an unknown, so perhaps the smart pick for the top pick is the safe pick.

3. DE William Gholston, Michigan State

Gholston's been a disappointment at MSU but I believe good coaching could turn him around. Lord knows he has the tools and is more decorated than random, screaming workout warriors like Margus Hunt as they fly up the big board.

3. QB Ryan Nassib, Syracuse

Andy Reid takes a gamble on Nassib, and why not. Nassib has a damn good short- to intermediate-passing game and projects to be the next Alex Smith. So this is not a bad decision if you're looking for a guy to groom who would give you already what you've got.

4. WR Markus Wheaton, Oregon State

Wheaton looked great at the Combine. He ran a 4.3 with a 37" vertical. Also, he showed off really smooth manuvering of the various drills. I think he's got the right materials to work with, and gives this team a one-dimensional speed threat it has sorely needed for years.

5. ILB Kevin Reddick, North Carolina

After watching Reddick stink at the Combine, I'm convinced he's perfect for the hard-hat punishment of the "sam" backer position. Day One starter next to DJ.

6. ILB Steve Beauharnais, Rutgers

Some badly needed depth in the linebacking corps.

7. RB Le'Veon Bell, Michigan State

Somebody good always falls. Who the hell knows.

I like this. It fills alot of needs. Especially at corner this helps. I would like to keep Albert and have Floyd insted though.

You're awfully confident that Albert will walk.

When I make my pick in the CP mock and if Albert has re-signed or isn't out the door yet, I have every right to make my pick a QB or other non-OT position.

1. We went through this routine last year with Brandon Carr.

I'm assuming he's out the door for the purposes of my mocks just because they make the job of improving the team harder and each draft pick more important.

The second Albert resigns (if he does), I'll join you in rejoicing and I'll start drafting defensive linemen #1 overall.

2. If Albert resigns, the Chiefs still aren't going to burn 1.1 on a QB, but at least you'll have more cover for picking QB. Leaving our QB with no franchise LT is just irresponsible.

Bowe already has cost us Carr. Now it could be Albert. He is making us worse by holding out for more money. I know it is his right but lets get this worked out this time before the deadline.

Who's to say we won't pull a Pioli and sign a Stanford Routt? I know that switcheroo didn't exactly work out, but there are a ton of LTs on the market this year who might accept friendlier contracts than Albert.

I'm the GM is the point. I think drafting a tackle EVEN if Albert walks would be such a disastrous move. It would completely destroy morale, and if the guy sucks we're in the exact same position NEXT offseason. Only next year, we'll need replacements on the DL, at QB (because Alex sucks) AND we'll have a Jason Smith lemon to worry about.

Letting Albert walk is a case where you're not making the smart and safe pick. You're only inviting MORE unsafety and inconsistency to infect the team if the guy doesn't work out. A busted LT pick would be FAR more crushing and deflating than busting on a QB.

What's your Top 3 big board, outside of Geno.

First of all, Wheaton is being projected as a 2nd rounder now.

That said, I would love to have Wheaton on the Chiefs. however, it would be a waste of a pick now that Smith is the QB. The Chiefs need to stock up on TEs and RBs.

My big board accounts for positional value, measurable and TEAM IMPACT. If Dorsey's plan is to use the #1 overall to save money and save face by taking his best player available in a vacuum when it's not a need on a team that has FAR more glaring holes at more important positions, he's a ****ing idiot.

My top three if you remove all the QBs:

1. Sharrif Floyd
2. Dee Milliner
3. Dion Jordan

That's pretty weird shit, I know, but placing all these restrictions on my board in a year such as this on a team like the Chiefs makes it look this way. But I'm confident that all of those players would have three times the impact that could be had if we let go of Albert and drafted Joeckel/Fisher.

You're not very high on Sheldon Richardson?

RealSNR 03-02-2013 07:30 PM

I would like to see a lineman with better upper body strength and the ability to use his hands to penetrate if I'm going to put him in the top 3 of a team's big board.

If anyone is high on Richardson, it's because that person has a superficial understanding of the player.

I'm all ears, really.

He looks like a more athletic Nick Fairley to me.
