Slingbox, who has one?

It seems like a great idea, but how effective are Slingboxes?

I'm looking at a SOLO, not HD-Pro - my research has said that video isn't HD-quality outside your home network, so the HD-Pro is a waste for mobile streaming.

Since it doesn't have HDMI input/output, is there an affect on your HD channels when watching at home? (I've had this issue with my DVD recorder, although using compnent cables through the Slingbox will still allow 1080i, just not 1080p)

Is connecting through ethernet a pain? (I will be going through my PC, not a laptop, then streaming to a smartphone)

I've read a lot of reviews that say customer service is awful. Any experiences?

A girl I work with has one and loves it, but that's about all I can offer you.

I had one, but it was just the old version before HD was really all that prevalent, so I wasn't really looking for quality. The system itself worked great though.

I love my slingbox solo -

Mobile App works awesome - Quality is great depending on your bandwidth.

I recently cut cable at my house and went all netflix - took the slingbox to my parents house so if I need to tap into some Cable I can there..

One of my favorite tech toys

So, bumping this thread. If I buy one of these things used, is that an issue? Want to make sure theres no subscription I need. I have comcast, DVR box. Just want to be able to watch what I record and live TV like Royals, Chiefs, KU when Im away

Thinking about buying a Slingbox Pro-HD. Video quality is pretty important..

Try Belkin @TV. Cheaper than slingbox. No subscription works great

Why Not? 08-26-2015 09:45 PM

No subscription on Slingbox either. Love mine. I think it's a must for sports fans

I highly recommend buying used. Since Dish bought them out, their customer support went to shit. So buying new for a warranty is pointless. Dont buy a Solo. The capacitors are junk. Guaranteed to fail.

Slingboxes use IR to send your remote signals. So if you have a remote that is using RF signals, your gonna have to turn that off. Kinda sorta matters for a lot of direcTV users. Also, this streams what you watch on your tv. So many negative reviews are "huurrrr duurrr my wife gets mad becuase when I watch my slingbox, I change what she is watching." Well yeah, it is streaming cable box. It is not a separate source.

Sling is pretty much the only guys left in the streaming game. Vulkano and Belkin are no longer made. Looks like amazon still has stock from 2012 and 2013.

I have toyed with using Emby or Plex for live tv streaming. Never figured it out.

I have the original Slingbox, which was great at the time due to the built in tuner. Pretty much useless these days though. Video quality was watchable.

I have the HD version.

If your upload speed is fast enough then it makes a difference

It's handy for catching show while on the road outside your normal viewing signal(chiefs, college etc)

signal within your own Ethernet works even better, don't underestimate HD

jmo

a phone screen is so small it might not matter though
