Little help here guys, need some opinions

I feel like I'm getting hosed on my tv/internet bills. Since I have Direct TV I don't have them bundled and I feel the rate I pay for both is ridiculous. I'm over 200 a month combined while my parents have Time Warner cable and pay 140. However I live in a Comcast area now and keep being told by everyone how awful it is..

But the fact that I could go to comcast and get more for about 50 bucks less a month seems appealing to me.

What do you guys have to say on the issue?

Ebolapox 01-31-2013 10:22 PM

I'm good at the cable TV.

Mr_Tomahawk 01-31-2013 10:23 PM

Direct TV is a rip-off.

I dropped them and went to Dish. I have no complaints with Dish.

Hootie 01-31-2013 10:24 PM

ATT Uverse is the best I've ever had, by far.

and they always have sign up deals where you get between $100-$300 back on Visa debit cards just for signing up.

Try Uverse.

Mecca 01-31-2013 10:25 PM

I'd rather not go to dish, the fact that I can't bundle is also costing me money. The internet honestly is far more important to me than the TV is.

Right now I basically have TV or the kids would lose their minds I can watch all my stuff online.

I looked into that..you can only have 4 TV's and well that isn't enough.

Nope and that isn't an issue because I can get that on my PS3 if needed.

BigRedChief 01-31-2013 10:27 PM

Got Brighthouse down here. Time warner in KC. HBO/Showtime, On Demand stuff, the music stuff, all the sports channels, over a 1000 channels. Could have a free local phone too. And 40 meg of bandwidth for $115 a month.

The best in KC was Uverse in my opinion.

Hootie 01-31-2013 10:29 PM

you can only have uverse on 4 tv's? that's strange

Well you can have more than 4 but they have to watch the same thing.

That's what I was thinking. The old Mecca would never be with a girl who participated in vaginal sex.

They're like little people. Without going into all the details, basically a male and female procreate and create another human life form. They are usually messy and unable to control their bowels.

Since when did Mecca grow up, and get a life and stuff? Congrats Mecca!

since its IPTV there is a bandwidth issue. you can have 4 live shows coming in at any time. you can also watch previously recorded stuff in addition to that.

you can also get 1 tv only service plus a tv+internet so you can have 8 live incoming streams, and still save money i think

CHENZ A! 01-31-2013 11:10 PM

Comcast sucks dick. Worst option by far.

DaneMcCloud 02-01-2013 02:09 AM

$200 a month? Does that include a porn subscription?

:D

I have five HD DVR's, every premium channel, the HD package AND the maintenance package. My bill is $159 a month, with Cali's 10% tax included.

Something isn't right. I'd call them tomorrow.

We have Uverse and IMO its a pain in the ass. If you have 3 shows recording and someone is watching something live. You either have to kick that person off of their show, stop a recording, or not watch TV. Not to mention that the Gateway's wifi is shaky and Live TV is consistently locked up or lagged out.

petegz28 02-01-2013 08:32 AM

I have Comcast and I am very happy until I get the bill.

I have the following:

Extended Digital Cable + HBO
2 HD boxes
2 regular boxes
High speed internet
Phone service

Bill: $230 a month

Mr. Flopnuts 02-01-2013 08:35 AM

I loved Comcast in Seattle. But I was always able to negotiate with them to keep my bill around $150 a month and my service was identical to Pete's except I didn't have home phone service, and I didn't have the 2 non HD boxes. They gave me HBO for a year for $1 one time. That was coming to an end right as I was moving though. They were less willing to haggle.

digger 02-01-2013 08:39 AM

http://www.ooma.com/ for Phone, save $50 a month, Free LD, new monthly bill less than $5.

kepp 02-01-2013 08:54 AM

We had been switching back and forth between Dish Network and DirecTV for years now, but finally just decided to drop them altogether. We got a Netflix streaming subscription for the kids to watch cartoons and their other shows, and there is also a lot on there for us too. We use a PS3 and bought a $40 Roku box for and a semi-cheap OTA antenna. Less than $100 in startup costs and $9.99 a month for Netflix and, to date, we don't really miss anything we had before. We do have cable internet through TWC for like $45/month also.

SAUTO 02-01-2013 08:55 AM

holy shit! what happened to the mecca we all knew and loved?

kids? own place? paying bills?

i feel like this is crazy backwards day.

LMAO

stonedstooge 02-01-2013 09:25 AM

I just finished my first 3 months with DirectTV and called in to have them not extend the 3 free months of all the pay channels. Bastard started to argue with me about cutting them to a point I finally had to say "NO. I DON"T WANT THEM". They also started charging me $20 bucks a month more then what I was quoted by the lady that set me up initially. Found out they were charging me $19.99 a month for insurance of the equipment and supposedly my equipment. Dude argued for close to 20 minutes about how I needed it to a point I finally said "I DON'T ****ING WANT THE ****ING INSURANCE. TAKE IT ****ING OFF!!!!". Damn, I've never had a rep argue and be that aggressive with me on the phone over shit like this before. Finally got him to agree to what I wanted. I guess we'll see how much they bill me for from now on.

Well he could have met a girl on Plenty of Fish who has four kids and they survive on food stamps and child support payments. Let's not give him the benefit of the doubt just yet.

RyFo18 02-01-2013 09:33 AM

DirecTV is overpriced no doubt. I only have them b/c I have to watch the Chiefs.

Last year I called to tell them I was cancelling because I wanted to switch to dish since they have the "hopper" that records 5 things at once AND because I only wanted the Redzone channel and they didn't offer a package like that. They gave me NFL Sunday Ticket ($330 value) for free, upgraded my receiver to the one that records 5 things at once, and gave me a $20 bill credit for 6 months.

I imagine since it sounds like you don't have Sunday Ticket, that you might be able to get some nice savings. Call them and tell them "I can save $70 a month by switching to Comcast." They'll do whatever they can to accommodate you. You will get locked into another 2 year deal, but it can't hurt to try.

soopamanluva 02-01-2013 09:38 AM

I dropped direct tv last year. I dont have cable. I bought a slingbox and connected it to my parents tv and sling cable from them. Im waiting on Google fiber.
