The incredible edible egg.

Is there any food as versatile as the egg? How do you like 'em? Over easy? Sunny side up? Fried hard? Hard or soft boiled? On an English muffin?

If I'm having an egg just to eat, it's gotta be over hard. I can't handle the texture of gooey yolks. I know that's akin to cooking a steak well, but I can't help it. Don't care for scrambled or any other way, and my preference is as a sandwich on toast.

However, I make a damn fine browned butter fresh pasta dish with sage and an over easy egg on top. The egg yolk mixes with the browned butter for a creamy sauce...

BigMeatballDave 06-15-2014 08:59 AM

If I'm eating a fried egg, the yoke must be runny.

I do not like hard-cooked eggs. I do, however, love deviled eggs.

BucEyedPea 06-15-2014 08:59 AM

My favorite is poached and then topped on toast or a corn pancake.
Never like them cooked hard scrambled or fried. I like egg white cooked and yolk runny but warm.

chiefzilla1501 06-15-2014 09:00 AM

Fertilized

Fire Me Boy! 06-15-2014 09:00 AM

Best sandwich I've had recently was a fried farm fresh egg with homemade bacon on homemade bread. It was divine.

BucEyedPea 06-15-2014 09:00 AM

Fertilized? Eeoooooow!

CoMoChief 06-15-2014 09:10 AM

hard boiled or scrambled w/ cheese is what I prefer.

im a huge deviled eggs fan.

Prison Bitch 06-15-2014 09:13 AM

Poached

Stewie 06-15-2014 09:18 AM

I mentioned this in another thread, but I like eggs over-easy on a pile of breakfast potatoes.

Pasta Little Brioni 06-15-2014 09:20 AM

Sometimes scrambled sometimes "dunky"

chiefzilla1501 06-15-2014 09:22 AM

More seriously...
Love them in eggs benedict
Scrambled with dill (underrated and simple ingredient for it)
Also baked like in a gruyere quiche, but mediterranean food has interesting uses too (great in tagines, tave kosi, tunisian egg dishes)

MTG#10 06-15-2014 09:22 AM

Scrambled, or omelets. Wont touch no yellow ooze.

Eating the unborn embryo of a chicken is kind of ****ed up if you think about it.

FlaChief58 06-15-2014 09:26 AM

Over easy on a bed of hash. ****ing delicious!

TribalElder 06-15-2014 09:27 AM

I'm about to have some scrambled with cheese

I also enjoy one flip and no flip and hard boiled

my favorite might be in omlet form mmmmmmmmmmm omlet

threebag 06-15-2014 09:28 AM

Awesome on a good burger. Runny yolk and toast is heaven. Deviled eggs kick ass too. Fried egg sandwiches the ultimate quick snack.

Baby Lee 06-15-2014 09:29 AM

Fried runny yolk, tabasco on top and dip my bacon and toast into the yolk.

Also, the breakfast bowl at IHOP, fried runny yolk. Seasoned home fries topped with egg, then diced tomato, then crisscrossed bacon strips.

Buehler445 06-15-2014 09:37 AM

Over medium.

Omelet with all manner of foodstuffs in it. Eggs rule.

hometeam 06-15-2014 09:37 AM

over easy is the way to go.

I like em on a burger and when you bite in they explode and ooze into the cracks.

I like em on freaking everything.

I suspect that I may not like the '100 year old' egg though.

IHop cooks the worst eggs. IMO they suck for breakfast. Perkins is better if you hafta' eat at one of those places.

BucEyedPea 06-15-2014 09:51 AM

Italian stratas. I make one every Christmas morn.

Over easy with country fried steak, gravy, and hash browns. Buttered wheat toast.

ChiTown 06-15-2014 09:55 AM

Over Easy, on potato bead with bacon and a slice of tomato and Swiss cheese. FTMFW!

hometeam 06-15-2014 09:56 AM

Oh yea, no balutes for me either. Yall some sick mother****ers. Its like IT for breakfast.

Frittata with carmelized onions, pecorino, emmentaler, and fresh sweet basil.

We have a good local one. Franchise, guy has run it forever and it ALWAYS has a wait time.

srvy 06-15-2014 10:14 AM

Love eggs anyway. My breakfast was 2 eggs over easy diced fried potato with green and red peppers and 2 sausage links. I like my eggs to run but at the point thats its nearly to solidify.

Actually, a lot of recent studies have indicated that eggs don't really have much of an impact on the body's cholesterol. Eggs are high in cholesterol themselves, sure, but the body doesn't just absorb it and turn it to LDL.

Ceej 06-15-2014 10:17 AM

Scrambled with potatoes, cheese, ham and/or sausage.

You total cholesterol is more related to how much saturated fat you eat not food high in cholesterol. And relatively speaking, food intake does little to change your cholesterol numbers as this is mostly genetic. Food high in cholesterol like shrimp or eggs does nothing to elevate your cholesterol numbers. I eat 12-16 eggs a week and have great lipid numbers.

Actually sugar and processed flour products raise cholesterol per new data.
You can go paleo and even eat butter, cream and saturated fat and it won't raise your cholesterol. Other new data is that hi cholesterol may not even be the culprit as much as inflammation.

Hammock Parties 06-15-2014 12:13 PM

I like mine soft boiled. About 5 of them in a big bowl with pepper. Chop em up til it's a big bowl of egg soup.

keg in kc 06-15-2014 12:14 PM

Scrambled with crumbled turkey sausage.

Been a (very) long time, but I'm also a fan of eggs benedict.

Hammock Parties 06-15-2014 12:15 PM

Scrambled I like 'em made with butter and a few spoons of fresh salsa, and some chives after they're cooked.

Baby Lee 06-15-2014 12:23 PM

Oooohhhh!!!

Campbelled Eggs!!

Can of Cream of Mushroom Soup, no water added, 7 eggs scrambled. Chop up a few extra fresh mushrooms. Fresh ground black pepper. Maybe a sprinkling of fresh parsley.

Cook until set, but moist.

Dayze 06-15-2014 12:32 PM

poached and over easy are my favorites. but I HATE when I order over easy and it comes out with raw runny yolk. the yolk should be creamy when cut into , slowly oozing out. not immediately running out all over your plate raw etc.

Fire Me Boy! 06-15-2014 12:33 PM

Anyone ever has Campbelled Eggs?

:spock: Isn't that the definition of over easy? It sounds to me like you really want over medium.

Dayze 06-15-2014 12:48 PM

not IMO. when the yolk runs out raw and runny and even areas of clear yolk.
it should ooze out in a nice creamy texture. not pop out like you sliced open big zit.

Then what would one order if they preferred it less cooked than that?

Dayze 06-15-2014 12:54 PM

I don't think over easy means raw yolk, that's all.
just a smidge more cooked than totally raw.

Sounds like what you want is over medium. Over easy is cooked but a runny, liquid yolk. Over medium is a thick, liquid yolk.

FlaChief58 06-15-2014 01:02 PM

I've discovered that I prefer my eggs without pepper. I have one egg and a couple pieces of toast (from homemade bread) pretty much every morning for breakfast. One morning I forgot to pepper my egg, and I liked it better.

scho63 06-15-2014 05:01 PM

I HATE EGGS!!!

Have been hating them since two years old and my Mom tried to stuff disgusting scrambled eggs in my mouth and then a few more times with ketchup. If someone is eating egg salad I have to leave as I will throw up. Soft boiled eggs and super runny eggs make me ill as well.

I like to mix 3-4 in with a can of corned beef hash and then cook together.

Overall I love eggs.

cdcox 06-15-2014 06:29 PM

Eggs are glorious.

My favorite ways to have eggs, in order:

Just eggs:
Sunny side up (medium)
Sunny side up (soft)
Over easy (soft)
Over easy (medium)
Scrambled (slow cook method)
Scrambled (fast cook method)
Sunny-side up (hard)
Over hard
soft boiled
poached
hard boiled
basted

Dishes that prominently feature with eggs:
Eggs Benedict
Deviled Eggs
Pasta Carbonara
Quiche
French Toast
Cesar Salad
Egg thing (my own version of hashbrowns, ham, cheddar, and eggs all mixed together in a skillet)
Various breakfast casseroles
Egg Salad
Omelet

Not to mention all the desserts that are based on eggs.

Demonpenz 06-15-2014 06:43 PM

Doctor advised me to go yokeless because of Cholestoral so I haven't eaten ones in awhile. Loved them though.

Simply Red 06-15-2014 06:55 PM

I make a crustless quiche almost every week.

Sauteed mush/green onions/crispy bacon/swiss cheese.

Hammock Parties 06-15-2014 07:38 PM

Eggs are a healthy food though. I eat them by the truckload. It's a myth that they're fattening or bad for your cholesterol.

DaFace 06-15-2014 07:41 PM

For anyone who is into hard-boiled eggs - either on their own or in some other recipe - Costco sells packs of two dozen pre-peeled hard-boiled eggs for something like $4. It's glorious.

Shrooms? You can't nix those they are THE best--especially in eggs or poached on top a pile of sauteed shrooms. I make a wild mixed mushroom pasta. Much better than meatballs. But if you want your balls handed to ya' I understand.

That's how I got into curry. I walked into the kitchen one morning a few years ago and my oldest daughter, whose biological father is Indian, was frying eggs like this. She had been learning some recipes from his family. I was instantly ravenous and thoroughly enjoyed the eggs.
