At a glance, it reinforces many of the things he gets lambasted for on this site.

Doesn't throw to receivers as much as most, tends to rely on backs, likes the middle of the field, doesn't go outside the numbers as much, makes most of his throws in the 10 yard an under range, etc.

So this site is right?

New system, new coaches, dog shit for receivers, broken/rookie tight ends, a "rookie" offensive line, and the best running back in the league.

Seems to correlate with the articles' numbers and analysis.

Well, now that Alex has had a year in the system I'm sure you are going to see him come out of his shell and sling it around the field like Aaron Rodgers.

Or... he could just be the same old Alex you've seen for the last 9 ****ing years.

As much as I hate to say it, my money is on the later.

You can add the fact that Reid's passing games have always involved the heavy utilization of screens and passes to the RB.

Oh wait, nvm, Alex suxors and every offensive system is the same and thus the only reason why our WRs don't get as many targets as WRs in other systems is because Alex is too scurred to throw it to them. :doh!:

How about people who think like that go back and look at the stats from Reid's time in Philly?

That's the problem with looking at raw stats. Throughout the season, Reid's system was designed to work primarily through his best offensive weapon; passing or running, it didn't matter, our best shot to score was to get the ball into Charles' hands.

That's not a product of how limited Reid thinks that Alex is, it's a product of the fact that our TEs dropped like flies and our WR core was among the worst in the league. Reid's offense has always relied heavily upon shorter passes as its staple with deep throws and routes being sprinkled in to keep the defense honest.

People who complain about Smith not stretching the field all of the time and cry about him throwing screens and "dump off" passes to Jamaal Charles instead of getting the ball to the WRs are just showing their ignorance.

but i'll even admit his style relies more on short/quick gains which works well with the this candy cane soft o-line. then again i look at his last and 2nd season with Harbaugh where he his performance jumped. hoping the same/bigger jump this season.

Alex needs that one guy he can strongly trust like Vernon Davis. Matt Ryan has/had Julio Jones. Kaepernick badly missed his Crabtree. Dalton has AJ Green. Matt Stafford has Megatron. Romo has Dez. Cutler has Marshall and Jeffery. And so on....

Yep, just as they statistically like to delve deeper into the numbers for a QB to give him a "truer" performance by composite with things like bad throws or dropped interceptions vs correcting for drops and the sort, it still has a skewed score. There are multiple factors you could adjust for to normalize the ratings even clearer.
Is there any adjustment based

- type of offense being run
- did he maximize the play, as in not just completed for a gain but missed the wide open man for a score or additional yards.
- confluence of targets based upon the recipient being their best weapons to score, because a stud WR, TE, or RB is going to obviously result in gameplan and approach.

There are tons of other factors, so don't get too enamored with black and white spreadsheets, because the numbers will never have all the puzzle pieces to complete the full picture.

Yes, the staple of the west coast offense is the short passing game, but Reid has always liked to stretch the field a little more than the Holmgrens and Turners of the league.

When he tells us at least twice last season that they are trying to get Smith to stretch the field more, then it should be understood that even he is not satisfied with Smith's downfield aggressiveness.

The last 6 or 7 games of last season is more indicative of Reid's style of offense,
The first 9 or 10 games was more indicative of Smith.

What in the blue hell is that supposed to mean? I'd have to go back and look but I think Smif played in those games sans the last week.
