Let's go with the rules that I'm posting in the original thread. I think it's a reasonable compromise.

bdeg 05-03-2009 06:29 PM

Any chance I could talk you out of the limit? It's a little frustrating when the 2 players you want at the top have the pick value of far less than the discounted #3 but it's impossible to work a single trade. Or possibly allow one trade up and one trade down?

not a big deal though, just tough to give up on a perfect scenario.

Eh, I'm not wed to anything. I just want to be sure that we don't create a system that gets onerous for the more casual players.

Anyone else want to weigh in?

Rain Man 05-10-2009 01:51 PM

Okay, people, if you want to ever be known as a draft guru or GM guru, you HAVE to participate. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Get rolling on this.

bdeg 05-10-2009 03:06 PM

does the 2nd pick of the 4th round have a 108 or 92 point value? im guessing 92(going by 102 overall) but correct me if i'm wrong

Kyle DeLexus 05-10-2009 03:24 PM

So we are allowed to do one of each a trade up and a trade down? Also the trade down discount is very steep I believe 30% would be acceptable it would be twice what you are giving for a trade up....plus I have found a trade I would do at 30% :) and 35% cripples it

It seems to me like valuing the number of the pick is more accurate than going by round, in case compensatory picks vary.

Did I screw you over or help you? :D

well originally i was trying to trade up for connor barwin, but it's impossible(shoulda known). working on something new though and it's looking pretty good. it's a trade down so that helps a little bit, looking at the value chart again I see they have an additional column "AP"(additional/comp picks i assume), I assumed it ended with r7 and therefore the true value would be somewhere in the middle, but it seems they took it into account. funny stuff about the value chart here: http://walterfootball.com/tradevaluecharterrors.php

just rounding out the later picks

Honestly 35% is a lot. I originally thought it was 30 and thats why I found one I would do. Trying to trade out of 3 for 35% would mean you basically trade to 8 about straight up and 30% is trading to 7 straight up.

Kyle DeLexus 05-10-2009 04:29 PM

Someone put a sweet sig in for me. Takes place of my KCKings draft picks

If others want to chime in, we can change it. I thought it was a little high for mid- and late-round picks, but the problem is those first five picks. There's such an escalation of value that almost anyone would trade out of them if the discount isn't big and their guy isn't in the next few picks. It's the problem with perfect knowledge.

Yeah I understand were your coming from. I still wouldn't get the guy I want and feel he would be a reach at 3, so if we wouldn't change it any I'd have to reject Cassel and take Sanchez.

bdeg 05-10-2009 05:14 PM

sticking with the 4-3 here and accepting the Cassel/Vrabel and TG trades while not trading away any of next year's picks.

I trade the 3 (1320 pts at discounted value) to the patriots for the 40(500), 41(490), 83(175), 97(112), 141(35.5), 232(2.2), and the 234(2). 1316.7 pt value

40-Everette Brown
41-Connor Barwin
67-Kraig Urbik
83-Brandon Tate
97-Jonathan Luigs
102-Donald Washington
139-Jasper Brinkley
141-Duke Robinson
175-Jarius Wynn
212-Javarris Williams
232-Jake O'Connell
234-Zach Follett
256-Ryan Succop

bdeg 05-10-2009 06:06 PM

oops, for some reason i thought it was a 40% discount, so im gonna rework it a little bit with the new value

Shoot, I just saw that and got excited thinking it was 30 before I looked at the OP and then did the calculation again. Nice btw, the Pats are my #2 trade partner if I can't work something else out.

bdeg 05-10-2009 07:19 PM

i thought you were going to take Sanchez of of 5:57 pm :hmmm::p jp, it does work out almost too well

does your trade involve the #3 pick?

if not a potential solution to your problem, Rain Man, might be to keep it 35% for our top pick, but 30% for the rest. I think that'd be fair considering the draft.

Yeah it involves the 3, I was going to as of 5:57 but then I noticed the Pats had 4 seconds and I really didn't need anyone in the late first round :). I was going to go with Denver and get Maclin in the first but would have rather had DHB.

That sounds reasonable. 35% for 1st round picks, 30% for all other picks.

Kyle DeLexus 05-10-2009 11:58 PM

Accept the Cassel/Vrable trade. Atlanta gets TG and Couldn't work any other trades and had to do the same trade with the Pats as mentioned earlier. It is the only one that gets back about equal value. I wanted to trade with the Donks and get their 18, 2nd, and 3rd and get Maclin, Cook, and Unger. This gets me Brown, Cook, and Unger. So here are the picks I traded the 3 for 40(500), 41(490), 73(225), 83(175), 141(35.5), 232(2.2), and the 234(2)

40. Everette Brown, OLB
41. Max Unger, C, OG, OT
67. Alex Magee, DE
73. Kraig Urbik, OT
83. Jared Cook, TE
102. Donald Washington, CB
139. Johnny Knox, WR
141. Duke Robinson, OG
175. Quinten Lawrence, WR
212. A.Q. Shipley, C
232.Darryl Richards, DE
234. Chase Patton, QB
256. Succop, K

For now, I might revise.

wazu 07-16-2009 06:29 PM

If I'm not mistaken, we're only a few days away from lockdown so bumping this.

Rain Man 07-16-2009 09:54 PM

Ooh, thanks. Anyone else want to get in on this? Now's the time.

darosa88 07-17-2009 01:14 AM

this seems really cool, it's just too bad I don't care about the chiefs.

I wish someone over on our bears message board would put together something like this... (of course I don't want to run it, lol)

Should check out game 2. I know there are a bunch of people that haven't cut the roster down yet, because I'm one of them I keep forgetting....going to have to do that this weekend or next week sometime.

Rain Man 08-28-2009 07:33 PM

Okay, everyone, final roster cutdown date for the Chiefs is September 5th, so you need to have your roster cuts by September 8th.

And by the way, check out my new team guys + Tony Gonzalez. I'm the best GM in history.

Question about Step #3. It reads:

"Step 3. After training camp, each owner selects 35 Chiefs players who are "their" players who will make up their roster. The remaining 18 positions will be filled by a generic "scrub"."

So, just to be clear. When I select my 35 "Chiefs" players, I am also including players who I drafted, or didn't trade away (as would have been the case with Jared Allen) who are on other teams in real life? Pretty sure that's what you mean, but just clarifying.

In this year, it would be:

anyone currently on the Chiefs roster (MINUS anyone acquired by the Chiefs via trade where you rejected the trade)

OR

anyone you drafted

OR

anyone traded away since the game began for whom you REJECTED the trade

OR

anyone acquired via trade since the game began for whom you ACCEPTED the trade

wazu 09-03-2009 05:23 PM

One other question that just came to me. What if I were to decide Sanchez isn't worth it this year and not include him in my top 35. Does that mean he won't be available to me in 2010?

If you drafted Sanchez this year and then cut him in camp, he's gone. He's off selling insurance or even more unfortunate, he's picked up by the Raiders.

Okay, now let's say it's a Chiefs player. I drafted Quinten Lawrence along with the Chiefs. He'll most likely be sitting on the roster next year. If I cut him this year, and he's still a "real" Chief next year. He's he on or off the table for me?

Next year you'll have a new draft, you'll have your 35 players, and you'll have any new free agents that the Chiefs pick up.

Once you reject a player, he's gone forever. Unless, I guess, if he leaves and then comes back later as a free agent, a la Monty Beisel.

Okay, you actually explained that just fine in Step 6. No more dumb questions...at least not tonight.

Rain Man 09-07-2009 12:13 AM

So here's the process everyone.

First, I will reject the trade that produced Allemand and Ndukwe

Now I get to choose from my rookies:

#3 - Mark Sanchez - QB - USC (went to Jets)
#34 - Rey Maualuga - OLB - USC (went to Bengals)
#67 - Derrick Williams - WR - Penn State (went to Lions)
#102 - D.J. Moore - CB - Vanderbilt (went to Bears)
#139 - Duke Robinson - G - Oklahoma (went to Panthers)
#175 - Myron Pryor - DE - Kentucky (went to Patriots)
#212 - Zack Follett - OLB - California (went to Lions)
#237 - No pick - Rejected Trade
#256 - Alex Boone - OT - Ohio State (not drafted, signed by 49ers)

and the current roster MINUS rookies that I did not draft. (Note that I took the rookies out of this list.) I also include Tony Gonzalez since I rejected that trade, and removed Cassel and Vrabel from the list since I also rejected that trade.

Okay, I pm'ed everyone who drafted other than bdeg, whose mailbox is full. We're going to go with a 40-Chief roster instead of the 35 stated in the rules, so we aren't too thin at certain positions.

Man this sucks now all injuries and a dumb ass crabtree I don't want to play lol jk. Ok I'll have my roster tomorrow on my day off also will have my alt 3 roster done

Rain Man 09-07-2009 06:11 PM

Heh. Only 1 of your top four picks is in camp without a body cast. You're a prime lesson in how luck plays a role.

One of my low-round picks was cut, which was a bummer since I thought he was a steal. They don't all work out, though.

wazu 09-07-2009 06:59 PM

Do we need to have a long snapper?

Rain Man 09-07-2009 07:26 PM

Nah, no long snapper. Too hard to figure out who does it.

wazu 09-07-2009 09:13 PM

One more dumb question - what about players that are cut, but then signed to the practice squad? Is Barry Richardson off limits now?

The Franchise 09-08-2009 09:21 AM

Question:

Are our drafts final? I just realized that I don't have a kicker.....and that would suck. Are we allowed to redo our drafts?

Rain Man 09-08-2009 09:25 AM

You can still put Richardson on your squad since he's on the final roster (even if it's practice squad).

And pestilence, I have the same problem with the kicker. I think it's too late to re-do our drafts, and there's no way to pick one up. Unless people can come up with a reasonable solution, I think you and I are going with Scrubby McScrub as our kicker this year.

Maybe you ought to be able to keep players that the Chiefs cut during preseason like Conner Barth and Bernard Pollard. That probably wouldn't do you much good at the kicker position, but you'd at least have a chance that someone would pick Barth up and it's not really much different than deciding to keep a guy who ends up being a backup on another team.

No, the scrubs are the last 13 to get to 53, so you get 40 "name" players.

Hmm, that's an interesting possibility. In most cases it wouldn't be in one's best interests, but it could fill a gaping hole. And it would present the interesting debate of whether one takes a player who's been cut, or just go with a scrub.

What do others think of this idea?

On a depleted roster like the Chiefs, it probably wouldn't make much difference, but if you get to the point where the Chiefs are letting people go who have value it could. The example that comes to mind was the year they cut Ryan Lilja from a team that still had a really good offensive line. Lilja, of course, went on to get a bunch of starts over the next couple of years for the Colts. Punters and kickers who get cut often wind up on other teams too unless they're nobodies like Conner Barth.

There you go final team roster

wazu 01-07-2010 09:15 PM

Kind of dreading it, but what is the deadline for Step 4?

Rain Man 01-07-2010 09:24 PM

I think we can start any time. I'm busy at work, so I haven't done it yet to make the template for everybody. Maybe the next couple of weeks or so.

Okay, from what I can tell, we had six players who finalized their rosters. Can you look at the enclosed spreadsheet and let me know if you want to change anything on the depth chart? I'll pm the six players.

Since our roster is at 40 right now, I'm tempted to add any players who were picked up in midseason, since they can only help people (other than maybe Lance Long). Would anyone have a problem with me slotting them in?

Rain Man 01-18-2010 11:06 PM

Mid-season additions by the Chiefs include:

Tim Castille, FB
Chris Chambers, WR
Travis Daniels, CB
Dion Gales, DT
Bobby Greenwood, DE
Reshard Langford, S
Lance Long, WR
Kestahn Moore, RB
Leonard Pope, TE
Jermail Porter, OL
Ricky Price, S
Bobby Wade, WR
Pierre Walters, LB
Chandler Williams, WR

Do we want to have the opportunity to add these guys to our roster before the judging?

Okay, let's add them in. If you can open the spreadsheet, you can replace scrubs with these players, or I guess you could even cut players if you want, though I see no real reason to do that. Maybe if you've already got that position filled you might want to do it.

Why? We're not settling on a final roster this time, correct? I've got guys on my roster with zero starts - do I need to even bother listing them? Should starts add up to 16 per position?

You should list them for depth. Starts should add up to 16, but if your roster has less than that you'll need to use scrubs to fill it out.

Which brings up a question. Can you use backups? Maybe what we really should do is use games as the measure, and you can start a guy 16 weeks if he played in 16 games. That way, for example, you could use a Wallace Gilberry instead of a scrub if you didn't have enough defensive end starts.

Yeah, that's the way it should work. So Bowe, for instance, could get up to 12 starts since he played in 12 games. Charles could start 15 games if he was active in 15. (I think he was inactive one week.) And so on.

I'll go with whatever, but sticking to starts only might make it less complicated, and easier to see who has the better team. I'm thinking voting for this is going to be a challenging event.

Okay, here are the final rosters. I brought us all up to 53 people. I'll post the poll on the main page.
