Ohh okay. Maybe it's becaude a more normal Aussie accent is less of a "shrimp on the barbie mate" type gig, as it is a cross between a British and an American accent. Maybe the cross between the two helps actors etc imitate American/british accents more naturally.

I mean, don't get me wrong, we do say mate and we do have an accent/words only aussies use, and there are people that have quite strong accents, but most people (from cities anyway) have a relatively nuetral (from my perspective anyway) accent, which is -as I said- a cross between british and american accents.
