That's right. Thanks to Algordanza, a Swiss company, people can now pay for the process of having the ashes of a loved one made into a memorial diamond.

Algordanza

Using a combination of machines and complex scientific process, the staff at Algordanza separate the carbon from the deceased's ashes, then convert the carbon into graphite, and use specific temperatures and pressure to create a diamond "seed."

The color of the diamond varies depending on how much boron is present in the deceased's ashes. The more boron, the bluer the diamond.

While these dazzling diamonds may catch many people's eyes, the price may be a little less attractive. The cost of making a memorial diamond can cost around $4,500, on top of the price of cremation.

That is still less than a burial.

I always thought that a woman wanted to be married with her grandmothers' ring, not with her grandmother on a ring.

But how will the conjob funeral home directors (making six-figures) make cash on grieving families with this new method of getting rid of dead loved ones?!?!?

I'm betting I'm slam full of Boron,

This is another place.

There was a business in the Edina, MN mall at one time that did this too.

It sounds creepy to me. It just means you cannot let go.

The advancements of science is amazing-but icky.

I talk about this with my students during the minerals and formation unit. They are grossed out by it.

Also have a former student that her mom is a gemologist. Said this is becoming very popular, and some have to be careful as they can be sold off as real natural diamonds. Fooling the buyer.

I think it's a pretty cool idea.

Ashes suck. Diamonds are pristine. How would you like to remember your loved one?

ClevelandBronco 11-10-2014 07:18 PM

Some of you borons would make the bluest diamonds ever.

teedubya 11-10-2014 07:31 PM

GET A LIFE, BORANS.

Anyong Bluth 11-10-2014 08:12 PM

I know it sounds pretty morbid at first blush, but actually I think I kind of like the idea as a means of significance in memoriam of a loved one.

Anyong Bluth 11-10-2014 08:15 PM

Why is the price considered an issue at the end of the article?

Do people not realize how much funerals cost these days?

stonedstooge 11-10-2014 08:17 PM

I'd love to have that done with me, except I don't want to be cremated

I don't think a lot of people do, actually.

To the OP, this idea actually seems pretty ****ing cool. I think modern day burials are a pretty stupid idea, logistically speaking.

You dumbasses do realize this is a scam right. Look at the pic of the already cut diamond sitting in the human funk. You can't just cook up a diamond !

Could be just that it is an illustrative shot to show what they take originally and by process what the end result is.

Any shit for brains knows uncut diamonds look like black / dark stone and obviously not cut into a shape.

Would be sweet to make some sort of sword and imbed the diamonds as rune stones for generations. That would be one badass conversation piece. "This is my grandpa charlie. He fought in the big war. This here is my great great grandpa jimmy. He was a registered sex offender. And here's my grandma Iona. She was killed by the police when she shot grandpa Jimmy for being a sex offender."
