No, G&D's doesn't beat Shakespeare's. It is good, though. Angelo's on S. Providence is also good if you like Greek style pizza. Same family, I believe.

There's a rumor that there's a good BBQ shack on Bus. 70 by Firestone. Drive through only, very low rent. Haven't been there myself, so can't say for sure. For burgers, Booches on 9th. Pool hall, but the sliders are awesome. For fine dining there's Sycamore on Broadway, Grand Cru on Providence and a few other places. Lots of bars downtown, and I can't think of any place down there that was just bad.

Booch's doesn't take credit and I don't think they take out of town checks either, just remember that.

And ultimately, Booch's has more bread than burger. Best burger in town is probably the Chokes and Cheese burger at Flatbranch or, sadly, Mad Cow/5 guys.

The new Freddie's at Conley Road is damn good for a diner-style 'thinburger' and shoestring fries.

Been there. It's better than Bandana's, but I thought it was just average.

When in Columbia, the best place to go is Lawrence.

Good point about Booche's. Pretty much cash only. Disagree about the burger, but to each his own. Haven't been to Freddie's yet.

44 stone is mighty overrated, IMO.

I've only eaten there once, but I disagree.

If you like Mexican, LaTarazas is down near Lutz's as well and very good; nice little patio and occasionally they'll have oysters that are pretty fresh and they serve with Cholula sauce and a lime - damn good.

:Lin:

However Mexican sounds good as well.

Booches or Shakespeare's because they're the cliche places which are actually pretty solid. Finish up with some beers over at Sudsuckers/Big12/Campus Bar/Whatever they call it today.

They do some things well, but some of their 'flagship' stuff isn't that great. The lamb sliders just don't do it for me. The burger with the pork belly on it tends to be way too greasy and the pork belly just isn't as soft as you'd like it.

I've had a great steak sandwich there and I do like the burger well enough, but by about halfway through it you're wishing it was gone.

It's not bad, but it's not high on my list of places to go.

Fair enough ... you've had more things to get disappointed in than I have. IIRC I had the steak, which was good, and took nibbles from others' bangers and mash and chicken (and I think salmon).

The biggest positive for me, though, was just the selection of beers and scotches. That was more my "meal." :D

Typically would be the same for me but, I have to drive back to KC afterwards. So any drinking will be in the responsible form of moderation. :grr:

If you do decide on Flatbranch, give the Oil Change stout a try; good stuff.

Stay away from any sizeable amount of the pepper beer. It's a fun thing to try as swig of, but even a pint is way too much.

Raiderhater 04-05-2013 04:24 PM

Let me ask this, is there anyone who interested in meeting up for lunch tomorrow? I don't think I've met any of the Colombia crew before. Hell, I'll even meet CoMo, show him the AR I am going out there to pick up and watch him piss his pants. :D
