Fun Romo Mock

Offseason Plan

Release (incl. Waive/Retirement/Trade/Option)

Alex Smith (QB) - Trade for 2017 2nd round pick (+$9,700,000) - Alex Smith has proven he doesn't have what it takes to get this team over the hump. There was no drop-off when Foles took over.
Jamaal Charles (RB) - Trade for 2018 conditional 5th round draft pick (+$6,187,500) - Charles is getting old and those injuries are a factor. The Chiefs also cannot afford to carry his cap number.
Jah Reid (OL) - Release (+$2,075,000) - Reid became insurance after the Chiefs signed Mitchell Schwartz, and Reid hasn't even seen much action with all of the injuries at guard. His salary is needed elsewhere.
Demetrius Harris (TE) - Release (+$1,050,000) - Too many drops and plenty of time to develop, it's time to move on as the Chiefs have other options on the roster and it is a deep draft.

Allow to Walk

Eric Berry (FS) - The Chiefs couldn't get a deal done with Berry last year, and the cap restraints are tightening with other contracts to worry about.
Dontari Poe (NT) - The Chiefs nose tackle has been anything but his old self the past two seasons as back injuries seem to have taken their toll. Poe went from top-notch to very average, let him go.
Josh Mauga (ILB) - While a solid player against the run, he's nothing special. A year without him and developing youngsters makes this and easy decision.
Albert Wilson (WR) - Lackluster play and the ascention of Tyreek Hill as a rookie makes Wilson easily expendable. A RFA tender is too much to pay for his services in my opinion.
Kendall Reyes (DL) - Chris Jones and Rakeem Nunez-Roches are developing nicely. Dorsey will likely look to add more young depth.
Mike Person (OG) - Not a contributor.
Trey Millard (FB) - IR machine.
Kenny Cook (WR) - Not a contributor.

Re-Sign

Nick Foles (QB) -2-year Extension (+$4,933,333), turning 10.4 guaranteed 2017 salary into signing bonus and total of 12.4 M guaranteed, total contract of 3-years 21.95 M. Need a reliable backup with Romo and a Rookie coming in.
Terrance Mitchell (CB) - 2-year Extension (-$500,000), adding $4,500,000 w/ 1,500,000 signing bonus.
Daniel Sorensen (SS) - 1-year RFA original round tender of $1,671,000
Cairo Santos (K) - 1-year RFA original round tender of $1,671,000
*James Winchester (LS) - Signed 5-year $4,450,000 contract with $500,000 guaranteed (-$1,125,000)

Acquisitions (incl. Free Agent/Trade/Waiver Claim)

Tony Romo (QB, DAL) - Trade 2018 conditional 3rd round pick (-$14,000,000) Assume 3-year $54,000,000 salary portion of current contract. Basically banking on this guy giving you that one great season, maybe two and pushing it.
Zach Brown (ILB, BUF) - (-$6,800,000) 4-years, $30,250,000 w/ $14,000,000 guaranteed, including $5,500,000 signing bonus (see Danny Trevathan, CHI). Outstanding ILB that the Chiefs need to get their hands on.
Abry Jones (NT/DE, JAX) - (-$2,750,000) 3-years, $11,500,000 w/ $4,000,000 guaranteed, including $2,500,000 signing bonus (see Al Woods, TEN). Reminds me of an ascending Jaye Howard, Chiefs need to seriously court this kid if the Jags don't re-sign him.
T.J. Lang (RG, GB) - (-6,125,000) 3-years, $22,675,000 w/ $7,750,000 guaranteed, including $1,750,000 signing bonus (see Josh Sitton, CHI). Not so sure he'll give GB a team-friendly retirement contract given they cut his best bud Sitton last season with no explanation. Lang is tough as nails and a nasty guard that the Chiefs would need to keep Romo upright.

Resulting Cap Liabilities: $168,897,212 (versus projected $173,000,000 cap = $4,104,956 cap space)

Draft

Trade 2017 1st #27, 2nd #37 (f/NYJ for Alex Smith), and 3rd #104/comp (680+530+86 = 1296) to Saints for pick #11.

1 - QB Patrick Mahomes, Texas Tech - Going up and getting my QBOTF.
2 - FS Marcus Williams, Utah - Berry replacement
3 - WR ArDarius Stewart, Alabama - Playmaker, just keep adding more
4 - DE Hunter Dimick, Utah - Still love this kid as a Hali replacement.
5 - OT Levon Myers, Northern Illinois - Backup swing tackle.
5 (Comp/C. Daniel) - RB Matthew Dayes, N.C. State - An Andy Reid type of back.
6 (Comp/D. Stephenson) - DT Treyvon Hester, Toledo - Keep trying to fortify the trenches, quick kid.
6 (Comp/T. Branch) - DT Josh Tupou, Colorado - The immovable object.
7 - CB Ashton Lampkin, Oklahoma State - Going to be a steal me thinks.

QB: T. Romo, N. Foles, P. Mahomes

I'm all in on this deal.

Romo only needs to last a season then we can move on to the rook with any luck.

If this were to happen, it would equal about three years of production that we would have normally seen from Carl Peterson in the span of about three months, lol.

I like it, but I think we need more pass rush from this draft/offseason. That's the only thing I would change up, but I'm not sure where I would change it at.

Looks like round 4 from his mock.

TE position looks incredibly weak in your depth chart. Can't cut Harris and then not replace him with a better free agent or high draft pick if the Chiefs are going to run multiple TE formations.

Coogs 02-12-2017 12:25 PM

I will sort of play.

Sign Romo.

Trade Smith to Jets for a swap of 2nd round picks. #39 for #59.

Cut Foles.

Tag Berry and tell him he is free to workout deal with any other team. I will list 3 I think he might be interested in.

Atlanta for pick #31.
Jacksonville for pick #35
Or Tenneessee for a swap of 1st rounders, #18 for #27.

Scenario 1 (Atlanta):
We pick at 27, 31, and 39

Scenario 2 (Jax):
We pick at 27, 35, and 39

Scenario 3 (Tenn):
We pick at 18 and 39

They have Ross Travis waiting in the wings to go with Kelce and O'Shags

As bad as Harris was, Travis and O'Shags didn't threaten Harris for the #2 TE spot in 2016. In a pretty good TE class, why draft a WR in the third round instead of a TE prospect like Jordan Leggett, Clemson, or Adam Shaheen, Ashland?

Coogs 02-12-2017 05:18 PM

QJ, I sort of did. #31 from Atlanta is a 1st rounder. I was just spitballing some ideas. The swap of 1st rounders with the Titans is really the lowest point value of the ones I threw out, because Tenneessee doesn't have a 2nd rounder to work with.

Buehler445 02-13-2017 03:45 AM

I would beat off until my dick fell off.

I think if you cut Harris you could probably get him back at vet min if you were worried about it.
