Now, is he worth 2.2?

Uh, yeah. For sure. If he makes it to that spot, definitely.

RUSH 02-26-2013 02:19 PM

He's real stiff and doesn't play as strong or fast as his numbers indicate.

Sort of like Allen Bailey now that I think about it. Looks the part though but not a fan when watching him play.

He's a bit thin too but could see him putting on 20 pounds so I guess I shouldn't knock him for that.

He is 25 years old though and I will knock him for that.

Do not want.

htismaqe 02-26-2013 02:19 PM

Did you see him in the SMU bowl game?

Not really. He's maxed out.

I love Hunt a lot too. And I think he'll be there at 2.2.

But I also think he doesn't have a fit in this defense. He's a tweener.

Frosty 02-26-2013 02:38 PM

All during the Senior Bowl practices, they were questioning Hunt's instincts. That would worry me a bit.

MagicHef 02-26-2013 03:07 PM

He'd be a nice LDE, letting Wolfe move inside. Then, on passing downs, we could have a 4 man rush of Miller, Wolfe, Hunt, Dumervil. I like.

ModSocks 02-26-2013 03:56 PM

Where the hell does this guy fit in a 34 though?

Sully 02-26-2013 04:17 PM

I posted this several weeks ago, but...

I go to a lot of coaches clinics. A couple of years back, I listened to SMU's DL coach speak. The way his guys are coached to play, IMO, is completely ass-backwards. This is mainly about playing the run. To make a long story short, he teaches his guys to play the zone backwards. If your OL steps to reach or zone you, he wants you to let them overtake, and play the gap back from your assignment.
I suppose, if the entire D knows to "re-gap" on zone, then it's sound (though I still don't like it, opens you up to be filled on "counter" and "power"), but my problem is that his instinct now, through repetition, is to allow his blocker to overtake. This makes him a project (again, IMO).

3/5 tech probably.

Probably needs to add 10-15 lbs.

Direckshun 02-26-2013 06:16 PM

At least.

JJ Watt has him by 20.

I think his frame is maxed anyway. Look at the picture in the OP. Doesn't exactly scream "room to grow."

He looks pretty slim to me. You could probably put 15 more pounds on him. They aren't going to be all muscle but you could probably get him a little bigger.

Personally, I don't really care if he's a little undersized provided he can still get an adequate pass rush playing the 3 tech from subs and the 4/5 tech from base fronts.

If he's shit against the run but can get up-field, then it is totally worth it.

I just think it would be cool for the Chiefs to have a player named Hunt on the team. I'm not going to call him Margus, I prefer Magnus Hunt. In my mind its Clark Hunts alter ego.

Hammock Parties 02-26-2013 07:12 PM

Sired by the loins of The Clark himself! And he's from SMU!

Destiny.

It's purpose that binds us, purpose that connects us. It is purpose and the Curse of CoMo that brings Geno and Margus Hunt to KC in the 2013 draft.

Does Como hate him cuz that could seal the deal.

I loved that first kick block highlight. It was full on internet "stay down bitch" after he did it.

This is the only full game I've watched.

What I liked: Active hands, good swim move, solid pass rush playing both the 3, 5, and 7 tech against a spread team.

What I didn't like: Poor reads/awareness against the run, seemed to not hustle as much as I'd like (nitpicky I know).

I've only seen highlights before but I think he's definitely worth taking at 2.2 if the rest of his film is like this. Then again, I place a higher importance on getting a pass rush from your 3 tech than most so I'm a biased ****ing asshole.

Hammock Parties 02-26-2013 10:39 PM

Depends what WR are on the board, IMO.

NJChiefsFan 02-26-2013 10:42 PM

Probably going to be a few good corners as well. It's amazing that 2 of our biggest positions of need can be had at 1 and 2 and we have to sit here worrying that we will instead go with Joeckel to kick things off. Not to mention that safety is deep this year as well.

Sorter 02-26-2013 10:50 PM

If we were to sign Cullen Jenkins to help out Hunt, that would be absolutely incredible.
We'd be set at having 2 (provided Poe develops) interior rushers along with Tamba and Houston for several years.

NOM NOM NOM

Additionally, Hunt has on occassion flashed a spin move. Now, this might not work as effectively playing the 3 or with added weight, but I do think that it is something to look at as a tool for him playing the 4/5 tech in base fronts, provided he learns how to set it up correctly and be shortens his outside step.

It is pretty quick though for a 3-4 DE project.

I don't think added weight would slow him down too much. He's very, very strong. And slowing a 6'8", 277 lbs guy down from a 4.60 isn't that bad, because a 6'8", 297 lb guy who can run a 4.8 is still a hot commodity.

But honestly, I doubt he can gain that much.
