Watched "eyes of my mother" last night.....what a flippin' trippy movie.

Was a sundance favorite. Black and white, real big on atmosphere and lighting. Had a "psycho" feel to it almost.

Really well-done. No special effects, no jump scares.....just a creepy story with a really nice performance by the lead actress.

Sadly I learned actor Anton Yelchin also died this year :( He was an aspiring young actor.

Odd Thomas was a very odd movie indeed. If you like odd movies this one is it if you don't like odd movies then you wont like it. I actually was >< to loving it but I actually just liked it. It wasn't NOT good but it wasn't NOT terrible either.

noted - but tonight I'm watching Short Cuts (not a horror film)

I just watched 'He Never Dies' on NetFlix. It was a fun movie. It kind of came apart at the end a little bit but it was entertaining.

KCUnited 12-29-2016 12:23 PM

Maybe someone more savvy than me can answer this. Is there an app that allows you to track movies that you've watched and rate them? Almost like a "Now Watching" app. After talking to another CPer yesterday, I'm apparently not the only one that rents/downloads movies not realizing that I've already seen it until I'm 10 minutes in. This happens to me quite a bit with older, more obscure horror movies which is why I brought it up here.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Untappd for you beer drinkers. It allows you to track the beers you've had and rate them.

VVitch is well worth a watch. Its set in colonial New England. Not really a cheap scare, horror movie. Just an foreboding sense of helplessness and feeling alone. Free stream on Amazon movies.

Also, Black Phillip FTMFW.

Paranormal Activity and The Witch were OK. Both worth a watch.

The Witch had very little jump scares. It was 100% atmospheric. I'd say they did a great job setting up the time period. It must have really ****ing sucked to live in colonial America during that time period.

that's interesting. rotten tomatoes has it at 29%. I've found that by and large I agree with their assessment oddly enough! typically if critics are raving about a movie I usually won't like it....actually usually I'll hate it. if critics bash something it won't stop me from checking it out and usually I'll disagree. for instance Armageddon showed up in the top 10 worst movies of all times on one site. I LOVE that movie! it's GREAT! so...I typically don't trust movie raters. R tomatoes so far usually agrees with me. :D

having said that I will take your word for it and check it out....cause I love me some horror....good or bad.

wondering how ya'll feel about movie ranking entities.
which ones are..... good? bad? right? wrong?

The Girl With All The Gifts

A very fresh and original angle as far as zombie flicks go. Loved the little girl as the lead. Some traces of 28 weeks/Days later but not much. Surprised to see Glenn Close as a main character in this. Ending could be interpreted different ways. I really enjoyed this

KChiefs1 01-08-2017 09:01 AM

I just watched Split last night. It's directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It was very very good. Dude has multiple personalities & kidnaps these chicks. It's worth a watch.

It could have been scary just the idea of being accused of being a witch to be burned at the stake.

Or to past the test. To find out if one is a witch they must weight about the size of a loaf of bread and if they have the weigh of a loaf of bread that means they could float so throw them in the water to see if they float.

I don't know how people survived the colonial days. If you didn't like someone call them a witch lol.

Cat's Eye is one of my all time favorites.

Has three stories told from the view of a cat General that has to save child Drew Barrymore from a menacing gremlin.

The first story is about a guy who enrolls himself into a quit smoking program Quitters Inc and for his families own good should quit smoking.

The second story is about a bet. A millionaire bets this guy a million bucks to walk around the edge of a sky scraper and his wife too. It's pretty exhilarating. Hey. Pigs don't eat it because they don't know how.

The third and last story is of what I mentioned as the cat makes it's way to a family home the child wants to keep the cat but the reluctant parents don't want too. Never mind General is the only one who can protect Drew Barrymore from the Gremlin.

If you really are struggling to quit smoking I'd suggest this movie you will think twice about smoking again if you love your loved ones.

The Ring

Saw it in the theater when it first came out. It was funny...when the movie started, there were these annoying teenage girls a couple rows behind me chattering and giggling away. But when they showed the face of the first girl that died......those girls were dead silent for the remainder of the film and some middle-aged woman stood up and walked out. It was AWESOME.

that brings me to another flick that scared me...

Dead Silence

Same thing....theater viewing. Mary Shaw haunted my dreams for damn near a week afterward.

White Settlers is good - don't go watch the trailer though - way too many spoilers are present. It's a solid 6.5 though, I'd recommend it for suspense and the fact that it has a nice UK/Ireland feel. Good watch thus far.

.

I was a teenager when i saw this. Or close to. The scene that got an emotional rise out of me was at the end. When you think it's done and over and then the girl comes crawling out of the TV. That was a legit, "Oooooh shit! Run ****a!" moment.

ModSocks 01-11-2017 02:10 PM

A movie that legit scared the shit out of me when i was a kid was Fire in the Sky. I always had interest in the paranormal/UFO's when i was a kid.

I remember being 10-11 years old and surfing through the channels and landing on this movie. The scene towards the end where he's having flashbacks of being on the table with the Aliens operating on him scared the **** out of Baby Detoxing. So much i had to change the channel. That one stuck.

The Crypt Keeper from Tales from the Crypt irked the shit out of me too.

Fire In The Sky...I was all over that. being supposedly true and all. I've seen a couple shows about it and the dudes involved never recanted their stories. why would they keep on lying! I don't think they would!

there's a movie...somebody help me out here...where they come and keep taking this kid from his bedroom. man it got me! it actually scared me. OH! got it....Dark Skies. I won't stop on that one while surfing. hahahaha.

Oh man....this post may be better reserved for the paranormal thread, but about a year or so ago I somehow came across some random blog that i haven't been able to find since.....

Have you ever seen mysterious shadows? That feeling like someone just walked by you but no one was there? Shadowy figures out of the corner of your eye?

I came across a blog made by some meth head and it was the freakiest shit i've ever seen. He believed that those shadows we see are real, and they're demons. The entire blog is a complete mind **** about demons lurking in the shadows and following him around. It was formatted like a diary and recorded this guy's daily encounters with what he thought were demons that were oppressing him. Going through this blog gave me legit chills....as an adult. I had to shut the thing off....it felt...evil.

His reasoning and his photographs were incredibly compelling. I've tried finding the blog since then and have had no luck. IIRC, i came across it while researching night terrors.

IIRC, i came across it while researching night terrors.

i periodically get those "6th" sense like feeling with shadows.. and a momentary passing of a presence.. scares the **** outta me. I used to think I used to see a shadow passing by in a blink of an eye as a kid whenever I looked down a hallway or something. I don't dwell on it but it gets you thinking sometimes

Must be the drugs because I see shadows like those all of the time.

Autopsy stuff was pretty nasty, but a solid horror flick for sure.

What movies scared you guys as adults?

As an adult, the only one I can think of was the first Hostel. Not that I was "scared" per se, but more just completely creeped out because I could see that actually happening in one of those Eastern bloc countries.

As a kid, I couldn't make it through Basket Case. It was cheesy, but the villain Belial just had the creepiest damn look ever and I couldn't handle it.

I'm not saying The Village was scary but I did like it and until the twist at the end was like oh

frozenchief 01-15-2017 03:53 AM

I Saw The Devil was pretty creepy. Korean film about revenge. Thought provoking and very dark.

I watched this the other night, it started out really good. Then it fizzled out, and just turned into a major disappointment. Would not recommend.
