Cyber Monday deals...

Post your favorite Cyber Monday deals. What are you looking for? What are you gonna get?

Personally, I need some new PS3 dualshock 3 controllers and I'm not paying $50. Hope to see some sub $30. That'd be great.

Great Expectations 11-27-2011 03:59 PM

I'd like to buy an iPad 2 for less than the refurbished price or to see apple discount their refurbished iPad 2s.

mikeyis4dcats. 11-27-2011 04:56 PM

I need a photo frame.

Buehler445 11-27-2011 04:58 PM

I wouldn't mind some Running shoes and some underarmour polos.

I'd love some Under Armour stuff, but man that shit is expensive.

Just bought Rosetta Stone language software (Latin American Spanish) for my wife on their website. The full package, containing all 5 levels, was $399 ($419 after tax) today only. That's $100 cheaper after tax than the copy I bought at Barnes & Noble two weeks ago (which I will now return).

vailpass 11-28-2011 03:03 PM

If anyone comes across any Fisher Price Power Wheels Dune Racer's I'd love to hear about it. I'm looking for 2 of them and can't seem to find any available.

You can torrent those for free. Not sure what your stance on piracy is, but $420 is a lot of money to spend.

Under Armour doesn't work any better than your standard long underwear in my opinion. Under Armour is a product of great marketing... I bought some cause several people told me it was the best warmest stuff in the world and worth the price. It wasn't.

I agree with you regarding their standard "Cold Gear".

Have you tried the 3.0 line?

Way warmer than long underwear, cold gear, etc. Not even close.

phisherman 11-28-2011 03:39 PM

I tend to believe that warmth in cold weather is more about proper layering with the right clothing materials, rather than the brand name on the clothing.

I like wearing under armor (or, more specifically, generic under armor style) shirts and compression shorts under my soccer clothing. I like the way it makes my shorts and shirt slide on my body instead of getting stuck on sweaty skin.

Good point. Although my wife will like having a legit copy, I think.

I'm going to have to disagree.

I've tried a bunch of different types of socks while skiing and the only ones I've ever truly thought made a difference were my red under-armors.

Skiing is something of an ultimate test of cold-weather gear, IMO. You have extremely cold temperatures, moisture, physical exertion and a lot of different twists/turns for the clothing (all over a fairly long period of time).

They definitely make a difference in overall warmth when you're skiing. Better still, they're not nearly as thick as the wool socks so you still get plenty of feel in the boot and it makes for better control in the process. I also love my knock-off compression shirt. I use it for fall softball (and wore just it under my Dawson jersey at the game last night). They worked great.

To each their own, but I think the underarmor stuff is great.

teedubya 11-28-2011 04:23 PM

I've been studying Mandarin on a pirated version of Rosetta Stone. It's fantastic.

What is it about them that makes them better though? The reason I ask is because I looked at the materials on my Under Armour thermals. They consist of a combination of acrylic, nylon, and spandex. Guess what my $15 Cabelas thermal underwear are made of? Acrylic, nylon and spandex. The compression aspect of the Under Armour is greater, but I still can't say a notice a huge difference in performance when out hunting. Especially not enough to justify spending 3 times the money on them.

I haven't tried out the socks. I have several nice pairs that do just fine for me and my feet hardly ever get cold.

The polos are a luxury deal, but I can't go without my undershirts. I don't use the compression undershirts because they bunch up in my arm pits. But I threw away all of my cotton undershirts.

Link

The base layer stuff is pretty good. It works well for the work I have to do outside in the balls ass cold. It keeps me warm enough with jeans and a respectable pair of coveralls keeps me warm enough that my face with a face cover over everything but my eyes is the weak link.

I bought a private label turtleneck compression shirt from Cabela's, and it is close to the same, but the Under Armour is definitely more comfortable.

Under Armour produces high quality clothing. That's why I buy it.

phisherman 11-29-2011 07:05 AM

Apparently all the marketing dollars they spend to convince you of their superiority are working.

Seriously people, it's a brand name, not a totally different kind of clothing.

I'd love to see what you'd think if we took a Cabela compression shirt and put an UnderArmour logo on it. People would probably "think" it was more comfortable than some store brand compression shirt.

I have to agree with this. If you look at Buehler's link above, the Under Armour shirt he links is simply 90% polyester, 10% elastane(Spandex). They've been making thermal gear out of this same material for many years. It's the exact same material, used in the same percent equivalents, in shirts that are 1/3 of the price. I just don't get how you justify paying 3X the price for the same exact materials. But I'll admit, I was duped into buying some before I actually looked at what it was and tested it out hunting. I still wear my UA stuff, because it does work well. But I feel duped into overpaying for it.

He'd better hope not. The new overlords wouldn't look kindly on his thievery.

Fair point.

I use 'underarmor' a lot like I use 'kleenex'.

I have my wal-mart knockoff compression shirt that I think does a great job. That said, I've tried cheaper 'cold gear' style socks socks and none of them are as good as my 10 yr old underarmor socks.

In fairness, Cabela's kinda ripped off underamour here. UA kinda pioneered that stuff, at least in terms of making it truly mainstream. I don't see any problem with giving them 'label rights' for something they really brought to the market.

vailpass 11-29-2011 03:57 PM

Funny to read the underarmor comments about staying warm. Out here we buy underarmor heat gear to wick away moisture and keep us cool during athletics practice and outdoor activity. Boxerjocks FTW.

In fairness, the link I posted isn't the compression type shirts. It is a loose fitting breathable undershirt.

The compression turtleneck I bought from Cabela's comparable to under armor was different. It was thicker an didn't fit well. It's the same stuff and could probably be fixed. I'm not disagreeing with you, but the experiences I had under armor is a good product and that's why I buy it.
