Jamaal Charles appreciation thread

This kid went over 1,000 yards for the third time in his career today. The yards have come hard this season and he has pounded the rock all year. He's easily going to have more than 300 carries.

He has 1,055 yards now and went over 4,000 yards for his career.

In two years he could be the franchise's all-time leading rusher.

Big ups for Jamarrll. We love you.

siberian khatru 12-02-2012 03:22 PM

He was outstanding today.

Also, there's almost a tit falling out in that pic.

Munson 12-02-2012 03:22 PM

He's a beast.

GoShox 12-02-2012 03:22 PM

Ridiculously good.

keg in kc 12-02-2012 03:23 PM

He does a tremendous job of making his line look good. I can't remember a guy so able to make something out of nothing. And he's never had a passing game to open things up for him.

Ace Gunner 12-02-2012 03:25 PM

I saw the "old Jamaal" out there today. dude is back to full duty. Now can Daboll play him a WR a few plays per game and we a rollin.

Great player and great person from all accounts. Love him yes homo.

The kind of running lanes Jamaal would have if we had gotten Peyton would be ridiculous. He'd be averaging 10 yards a carry by now.

Rasputin 12-02-2012 03:30 PM

Was hoping he would have got a rush TD insted of Baldwin on a slant.

I feel for JC & the team. For the players am happy they got the win.

threebag 12-02-2012 03:34 PM

Go Charles.

scho63 12-02-2012 03:51 PM

One of the greatest RB's I've ever seen squirting through the hole to make a 2 yd gain into a 9 yd pickup. Not counting the 40-50 yard breakouts each yr.

Truly a great dedicated young guy. PROPS!

It has been a lost season for the Kansas City Chiefs, but star running back Jamaal Charles is on the cusp of making NFL history.

Charles
Charles has 739 career NFL rush attempts. He is 11 carries from qualifying for career carry records. Charles is averaging 5.7 yards a carry. That, by far, is the best average in NFL history for running backs.

The legendary Jim Brown (5.22 yards per carry) is the current all-time per-carry average leader in NFL history. He had 2,359 career carries. According to the NFL Record Book, former quarterback Randall Cunningham has the highest yards per carry mark overall by averaging 6.3 yards per carry in 775 career rushing attempts.

For Charles to be on the brink of this record is special. For a lead tailback to rip off nearly six yards per carry for his career is stunning.

It is particularly impressive since Charles is coming off a torn ACL he suffered in Week 2 last year. Charles has come back strong. He has 1,220 yards this season and he is averaging 5.1 yards a carry. In 2010, Charles, a third-round draft pick in 2008, averaged 6.4 yards per carry.

I remember, before this past weekend's game, thinking Jamaal was having a down year for averaging 4.8 yards per carry ROFL

That says a lot.

I was just about to post something like this.

As a sign of how good Jamaal Charles is, this is his worst season as a pro in terms of yards per carry, and he's averaging 5.1 yards.

Think about that. That's astounding. His WORST season, is about where the best all-time career averages are. The guy is amazing.

That's why Peyton being in Denver pisses me off. The running lanes JC could get with Peyton would be the size of the grand canyon. He'd be averaging 9ypc right now.

I don't think this season will have such a damning effect on his career. Jamaal's tougher than his frame would suggest and he doesn't take the type of hits a traditional RB would. He does a good job of wiggling his body around to avoid full-on contact, so he really only takes glancing blows.

Charles must have showed lots of heart rehabing that knee that thing looks good as hell

DTLB58 12-10-2012 09:46 PM

If it wouldn't be for AP, everyone would probably be talking JC's quick recovery from his knee surgery, since they had previously said it usually takes a season to bounce back.

It looks like JC is going to be very close to 1,500 rushing yards this season. That would have been a huge season after this surgery say, just a couple of years ago.

This guy is deserving of every $ he gets. And I hope he gets to play on a winning team again someday, hopefully here in KC.

His running style is really unlike anyone I can think of. Sometimes it looks like his legs are going one way and for a moment, his upper body is going the other. I am reminded of Marcus Allen though, due to the way he can, as you said, kind of slink his way past heavy contact.

Rain Man 12-10-2012 10:10 PM

Jamaal needs 205 yards to move into 4th all time in Chiefs rushing yards, and then he could conceivably move to #1 with one really good season.

I bet you could win some bets with the fact that Len Dawson is in the top 25 all-time rushers in Chiefs history.

1 Priest Holmes 6070
2 Larry Johnson 6015
3 Christian Okoye 4897
4 Ed Podolak 4451
5 Jamaal Charles 4247
6 Abner Haynes 3814
7 Marcus Allen 3698
8 Mike Garrett 3246
9 Curtis McClinton 3124
10 Herman Heard 2694
11 Wendell Hayes 2560
12 Greg Hill 2436
13 Ted McKnight 2344
14 Barry Word 2306
15 Kimble Anders 2261
16 Tony Reed 2184
17 Donnell Bennett 1902
18 Robert Holmes 1719
19 Tony Richardson 1576
20 Joe Delaney 1501
21 Woody Green 1442
22 Jack Spikes 1392
23 Thomas Jones 1374
24 Billy Jackson 1365
25 Len Dawson 1253

petegz28 12-10-2012 10:12 PM

Jamaal is a ****ing pro.

Do want. Definitely do want.

ThaVirus 12-10-2012 10:57 PM

Jamaal's running style is really weird to me. He doesn't appear to be super fast, powerful, or shifty, but he outruns everyone in open space, lowers his shoulders for extra yardage, and makes people miss.

I'd say he one of the two true special RBs in the league right now. The only other guy that I can think of that is truly special at the moment is Adrian Peterson.

CJ has never been as good as Charles. Never. He's a guy who depends on big runs to have decent YPC. Take his last game for instance. With his big run, he averaged I think 5.8 ypc. Take it away and you have 1.4 ypc.

With Charles, he averaged 10+ ypc today. And even without it, he'd still average 6.7 ypc.

CJ has never been able to do that. Charles can consistently run for 4-10 yards. CJ consistently runs for less than 2 yards and then breaks a 80 yarder to boost his ypc.

ok I disagree

CJ was a much hungrier runner his first two years in the league...

Now he goes down too easily and shies away from contact. CJ is a guy they should compliment with someone else these days. I also don't really understand why their coordinator no longer sets up screens for him or uses him as a receiver but whatever.

But yeah...CJ and JC used to run a lot alike.
