I 99% sure you need a AR-10 lower unless you are talking 7.62x39.

At least, that was a few years ago. My dads .308 AR-10 doesn't mix with the 15's we have.

NO, The lower receiver is not large enough to accommodate the .308 Winchester/7.62x51 Cartridge. If you wish to operate a .308 diameter cartridge from an AR-15 platform I suggest the 300AAC Blackout.

Yeah, I think you're right.

Whatever I do, I'll get it at a local gun shop that specializes in ARs, so I'll know it's right when I do it.

Where is your city/area?

My father has a DPMS AR-10 with 18" Bull Barrel. He upgraded the trigger for a couple hundred, now it's a pretty capable rifle that can reach out.

We have a bunch of 1/4" thick steel prarie dog sized targets set about 350 out and it is very easy to get consistant hits, and that is without a bunch of practice with it.

I will probably get him an upgraded buttstock for his birthday since that is the only thing it really needs.
