Never seen a roller derby bout?

You're in luck! There's a championship tournament this weekend, where the best of the best in flat track derby will be competing.

You can cheer on the Kansas City Roller Warriors!

I never really seen the appeal over a roller derby. Seen them in movies, but we don't have em here.

Hey, what name did you decide on?

I'm going to be DEAD ENDicott. Good name for derby, includes my name, and it's got a special meaning to me and some of my non-derby friends. Going to be number 37.

Different than in the movies. Of course, we often don't like what we don't understand. :p

I watched a girl fall and break her nose at the last bout I volunteered at. :)

It really is fun to watch. Scoring is such that, even if someone has a big lead, it's always anybody's game.

That's a great derby name!

My sister played for a team in San Diego a couple years ago, before hurting her back. I think her name was Miss FortuneCookie, and the play maker on her team was Estrogen. Fun times going to those. We used to sit on the floor around the ring (played in a random warehouse) until one girl got knocked into the crowd and I saw her skate hit another girl in the mouth. Not a pretty sight.

Yeah, we call those the "suicide seats". The only buffer is the outer ring around the track reserved for the outside refs.

SW Missouri or Joplin used to have a team. Never made it to any matches though.

You've obviously never seen a bout.

Yes, there are a lot of bigger girls, but that definitely doesn't define the sport.
