Diagnose My Car

Chiefs Planet has proven itself to be the place for great information in regards to my fixes around the home and with the car.

Help me out.

My 2008 Nissan Pathfinder essentially has AIDS. 3 years ago we had to replace both the tranny and radiator (intermix issues). Now weird things are happening.

I've already shared about how the fuel tank shows empty well-above half tank (it just plummets to below empty and the electronic display says "Low Fuel.")

Now I've noticed that the horn doesn't work and the controls for the radio in the steering wheel don't work either. The car runs fine (for a Nissan) other than that. Well it rides like a large truck but that's probably suspension stuff (and it's a Nissan).

Where would you start?

Nuke the ****ing thing from orbit and go buy a Tahoe.

Sounds electrical at first glance. In your column. Maybe a fuse or coupler issue. Do your wipers work? Cruise? Anything else on your column/wheel?

Sounds like you have a serious electrical issue. That is out of my realm of knowledge. You'll probably need SAUTO or one of his kin to chime in.

Burning AIDS tree.

I'd check the fuse first. Look at your owner's manual, it should tell you which fuse controls your horn.

For the electrical stuff, check if you have a fuse out. Also, crack open the dash and steering column and check for any loose harnesses.

Have you tried the old trick of unplugging the battery for about 20 minutes to reset everything, then plug it back in to see if the problems persist? That can fix a surprising number of electrical gremlins.

The problem is that your tranny identifies as a drive train. Is it still under warranty?

Googling it, I see people recommending to check the fuse(#30), and the relay.

Dane and Pest say $800,000 is a dump of a house in California. Pay anything the mechanic wants. He's doing you a favor at $200/hr. + parts + giving your keys back + that line item charge of $500.

Also, quit blowing trannies...

BleedingRed 05-10-2016 01:25 PM

Has to be you CHIP or fusebox, something sounds super ****ed up.
