I am loving this fake money, myself. Do some research and be careful of bubbles. Etherum is killing it if you want to get in cheaper.

Your CC probably sent you an email to confirm the purchase.

Mine did for the first time I bought some and once I confirmed the charge it posted.

wutamess 06-12-2017 02:12 PM

I've been playing (gbtc) instead. thatcoinbase wouldn't let me purchase a couple of weeks ago. Bought 3 shares of GBTC today and will hopefully sell around the $535 mark within the next week or so.

Demonpenz 06-12-2017 02:15 PM

my credit card company never called or did anything but i did buy some today and both stocks went straight into the shitter. Stupid pyrimid scheme.

I'm very bearish on BTC. I don't like to see it fall as I think that hurts crypto as a whole, but I'm not putting any of my money there right now.

My prediction is the flip will happen, BTC will split but the winning chain will be determined quickly. Hopefully with 2MB blocks and Segwit, prompting a flip back to BTC and upward to 10K. August will tell a lot.

I'm not sure how a split would work in crypto. Would it be advantageous to have BTC before the split or buy the "winner" afterwards?

Whatever you have pre-split, you own equal amount on both chains. You can sell one for the other but its risky.

Smed1065 06-12-2017 05:42 PM

Uphold is a lot better than Coinbase. Coinbase always goes down on days like today. UpHold held up whole time. CB was shit today. Bitterex is good for other coins but uses BTC as base. Ripple should be good cheap 1, No mining with it but many companies/banks going to use for payment between themselves.

He's referencing cold storage. Where you store your Crypto offline in a vault (thumb/hard drive) or on paper instead of with a software based wallet.

So Bitcoin and ethereum took sizable drops today

Bitcoin dropped from right at 3000 to about 2500 and ethereum dropped from 400 to about 350...

But that's kinda been the trend all along...huge gains followed by sizeable drops while it builds towards a new high.

Talk to me guys....

Is this the best time to jump with a big purchase? I've got about 6k sitting around that I'm thinking of throwing it all into a combo of bitcoin/ethereum.

What's the talk of why this drop happened?

Hog's Gone Fishin 06-15-2017 05:24 AM

I don't have a problem with people going in on this. Definitely risky but I am starting to understand it more and appreciate some of the posts in this thread for that.

I would recommend no more than 10% of your "investment" money in this sector though. Don't tech bubble yourself like many people did decades ago.

Bubble or not , timing is everything. My BIL got a good reward in the tech bubble turning $500 into $25,000

Oh definitely. My main point is timing IS important but so is limiting the initial investment as well. I wouldn't be taking 50% of the current money in my brokerage account and moving it to cryptocurrency.

What your brother did was make money but he had a limited initial investment. That's my preference for high volatility items and things like penny stocks. I've read stories about others who weren't as conservative and lost big money when tech was big. Speculating is risky and should not be considered "investing." Only a small percentage of your portfolio should be left for speculating.

In short you download coinbase and invest your money on that investment there is a 4 dollar trade fee with another fee tacked on top of that. You watch your money dwindle down until finally it is so low you forget about it. Then someone deletes your account.

100% fact huh? That's how people lose lots of money in the market. You're simply speculating. No one can predict markets/investments.

If you understood risk/loss, I'd sell about $3000 of your current position. This leaves you $1k profit regardless of what happens after. Essentially playing with house money the rest of the way.

Sounds like you bought at a great time. But for you to no doubt think your position will only further increase, is a dangerous line of thinking.

So a decent way to look about that is the same product that you were willing to pay 350-400 for (because you felt it had the potential to multiply that number many times over) is now "on sale".

Look at the short and long term trends for these financial products and you will notice big swings in both directions and in many cases, a big dip is followed by a huge surge.

Buy low sell high

Can't get too discouraged after just a week of an investment.

For the same price you could get 2 for a few days ago, you can almost get 3 now.

If you still think it has potential to go to much higher peaks, bows the time to load up.

It's called dollar cost averaging.

You spend 400 on the first one and the next 2 you got for 300 each, so you're into each one at 333.

It goes back to 400, you made a nice profit. Sell high and let the market do its natural "correction" to drop some in price and do it again.

Try to get rich.

Demonpenz 06-21-2017 11:07 PM

Dollar cost averaging doesn't mean you're just buying at random times and averaging the price. Actual dollar cost averaging is buying at select intervals (i.e. Each month), knowing sometimes you'll buy high and sometimes you'll buy low. However, the value is always the same. Something like me investing $300 at the start of each month into my ROTH, regardless of what the market is doing. As opposed to waiting for a "dip" and investing a larger lump sum.

There's pros and cons to both ways in that scenario.

I bought 100 of Pivx to hold onto as well for a long time. Lesser amount of Eth and Dash. Just hoping it goes Apple or Google. Pivx is the penny stock of the bunch. Any other thoughts of some good lesser known cheap crypto that might blow up? Something under $5 a coin.

I think holding long term is the play. Just think, if you would have bought $1,000 worth of Bitcoin at the start of just this Chiefsplanet thread in 2013, you would now have $27,000 instead of $1,000.

Bitcoin was 13$ in 2013, according to coinbase. That 1000 would have bought you 77 bitcoins.

It's now $2700+ Per coin

That's about $208,000.
