49'ers Chris Culliver To Undergo Sensitivity Training Immediately After Super Bowl

Boy he is not gonna like this.

Score one for the liberal politically correct media.

Per AP:

"San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver will begin sensitivity training and education immediately after the Super Bowl following his anti-gay remarks this week, then begin volunteer work with at-risk homosexual youth nationwide.

Culliver is scheduled to begin working with "The Trevor Project,'' an organization that provides crisis and suicide intervention to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth, according to his public relations representative, Theodore Palmer.

Palmer says Culliver will spend time volunteering at a crisis center in San Francisco."

I surprised you didn't cuss at Goodell

gblowfish 02-02-2013 06:06 PM

Ace Gunner 02-02-2013 06:35 PM

football players need to be more sensitive /rog

Hammock Parties 02-02-2013 06:51 PM

Seems like they went overboard in response. It's not like he broke a law.

Dick move, but response is out of whack. It's a personal choice to be a bigot. A shitty one, but a personal choice nonetheless.

FloridaMan88 02-02-2013 06:53 PM

Artie Lange strikes again.

milkman 02-02-2013 06:57 PM

Phone rings at Trevor Center.
Culliver answers.

Man on line says, "My family and friends won't accept me for who I am.
I am so depressed, I just want to kill myself".

Culliver, "Suicide, that's just gay".

keg in kc 02-02-2013 07:01 PM

It's not about being pc. It's financial. Believe it or not, gay people watch football, too.

This. He's entitled to his opinion, but as a spokesperson for the NFL/9ers (whether he likes it or not), voicing that opinion when only a complete ****ing moron knows it's not PC is stoopid.

Agreed in the over the top response though. The NFL should have just said "we know Culliver is an idiot and gives morons a bad name. Please understand that his opinion is not that of the 9ers/NFL."

Why didn't Obama have to do it when he ripped rural Americans with insults?

We should trade for him, then make him room on the road with Eric Winston.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 02-02-2013 08:44 PM

Anybody that would name their kid Theodore Palmer has had too much sensitivity training.

CoMoChief 02-02-2013 08:46 PM

So ****ing stupid. What is this going to solve exactly?

gblowfish 02-02-2013 08:51 PM

Maybe he could do his community service work with the Westboro Baptist Church?

It is and your employer has a right that if you embarrass or cost them money exercising your free speech that they fire you, make you do penance. And if you don't like that you are free to seek employment elsewhere.

for crissakes you play in SAN FRANCISCO...... got a brain in your head?

Just because someone is gay now you can no longer voice your opinion against it. That is stupid and America needs to lighten up.

You can voice your opinion all you want. However there may be repercussions for speaking out.

It's a personal choice to be a bigot, you are correct. But he's also a representative of a national brand. And when he came out as a bigot in the media, the national brand has to go into damage control.

I don't see the problem with forcing him to spend some time with disadvantaged youth as punishment for spouting his idiotic ideas on one of the biggest stages that exists. And the fact those will be gay kids, maybe it'll educate this ignorant ass.

Yep. Especially when you're speaking out as a representative of your employer.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 02-03-2013 08:29 AM

So the at-risk youth get to deal with someone bigoted to their plight? Brilliant

You think they've never been around a bigot before? And you think he won't be on his absolute best behavior?

The government can't infringe on your right to free speech. Your employer can. You're welcome to seek employment elsewhere if you don't like it. There aren't that many employers that wouldn't punish you if you went and spouted such speech at what amounts to a company news conference.

Was this guy an idiot, especially considering where he plays, and the timing of what he said? Absolutely. But ask yourself this - why did he apologize? Was it because he suddenly feels terrible about offending a bunch of queers, or because he is in fear of losing his extremely well-paying job? There is nothing on earth quite so disingenuous as a forced celebrity apology. He thinks what he thinks, right or wrong. If anything, all this crap he's having to endure will probably just make it worse.

Is that really the guy who should be manning the phones when some cross-dressing 13 year old calls the suicide hotline? Or publicly showing up at events when everybody with the functional brain knows exactly why he's there and why he doing it? The level of overkill here is absolutely ridiculous.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 02-03-2013 09:33 AM

Whoever thought of throwing a 20 something homophobic professional athelete. Into a group of raging hormone teenagers is an idiot.

Pretty soon the Rooney rule is gonna require that owners interview a black gay minority candidate.

I don't think they'll put him on suicide prevention detail.

He said something stupid that he knew everyone was going hear. It's not the fault of those that are offended, they didn't do anything wrong.
