Chocolate chip cookie dough

donkhater 10-28-2012 10:34 AM

Brewers moose tracks or a cherry chocolate chip

Ben and Jerry's used to make a flavor called Brittanica that was really good

In58men 10-28-2012 10:34 AM

Pistachio ice cream and Moose Tracks.

Ben and Jerry's

For me it's all about Mint Cookies & Cream. B&J are the only big brand that I know that makes it, though I had it as a kid at BaskinRobins. Only problem is B&J doesn't make it Green, it's vanilla colored.

My sister made a mean salted caramel a while back.

Probably my favorite as well. I love that it's not green. The ingredients list on Breyer's ice cream is always awesome. It's like, "Milk, sugar, mint, chocolate chips."

That green is artificially colored

To make homeade mint cc you have to steep mint leaves in the milk for a couple of hours, then fish out the mint leaves and squeeze out as much as you can... It will produce a slight green tint .. I imagine Breyers and the rest use mint oil.

jjchieffan 10-28-2012 10:45 AM

Blue Bell Moolenium crunch is one of the best ice creams that doesn't come from an ice cream shop. Their pecans, pralines and cream is really good too.

R8RFAN 10-28-2012 10:46 AM

I like Buttered Pecan second

Pistaccio, I havent really found a good brand in the USA....But maybe HaagenDaaz or Breyers

Lonewolf Ed 10-28-2012 11:17 AM

Edy's Neapolitan. To flip the answer to the post, one of the weirdest ice creams I have seen is in a snack shop in Løkken, Denmark. They have licorice ice cream. If it was sweet black licorice, I'd have tried it but, it's a hideous kind made with some ammonium chloride. Feh!

I like Ben & Jerry's chocolate heath bar crunch, and a local favorite Hudsonville's Mackinac Island fudge, using Ryba's fudge from it's fudge from Mackinac Island.

Wow. Totally disagree. I love the "crisp" mouth feel of their ice cream vs. the heaviness of other brands. It's especially awesome with their mint chocolate chip.

The chocolate chips are just the damn bomb too and the right amount to where you come to the end of the bowl and that last half melted spoonful has like 30 pieces of chocolate in it.... :p

We have nothing more to say to each other.

Rain Man 10-28-2012 12:34 PM

I'm embarrassed to say this, but my favorite ice cream is the Safeway store brand, "Moose Tracks". It's vanilla ice cream with swirls of fudge and itty-bitty peanut butter cups. I usually avoid store brands because I feel like they steal the creative property of the real brands, but I've never seen a real brand with this flavor.

And since I just picked a store brand, I guess I have more in common with Deberg than I thought.

Alton deFlat 10-28-2012 12:40 PM

Don't feel too bad. I worked at a dairy making ice cream during my summers in college. We ran about 15,000 gallons per day and did private label, too. It was a matter of continuing whatever flavor we were making that day and switching cartons to a store brand. Same stuff, different carton and the dairy made good money on the private label since it was large volume.

Jive Ass 10-28-2012 12:55 PM

Mint chocolate chip is always good. A mix I've been doing when I've gone to Cold Stone is their Sweet Cream with cookie dough and Oreos mixed in. If there's a brand that makes that flavor I need to know.

Haagen Dazs makes a limited edition called Blueberry Crumble. It usually runs from Spring to Fall, so you can probably still get it.

My favorites are;

Talenti - Mediterranean Mint

Ben & Jerry's - Chocolate Fudge Brownie, New York Super Fudge Chunk, Chunky Monkey.

Haagen Dazs - Bananas Foster limited edition

Breyers is NOT good ice cream.

Graeters in Ohio is the best I've ever had.

Having just moved to Florida, I discovered Publix sells Blue Bell. SCORE!

Predarat 11-13-2012 11:06 AM

Blue Bell makes tons of good ice cream. The Cookies and Cream, the natural Strawberry, but their commercials are ****ing intollerable.

Graeter's is a Cincinnati-based ice cream. They've recently started moving out - Kroger carries them in some locations (they started in South Carolina a couple years ago), and Winn Dixie and Publix started carrying them down here in Alabama earlier this year.

So if you've got a Kroger, Winn Dixie or Publix nearby, I'd look for 'em. Best ice cream I've ever had.

Not sure whereabouts you are in NC, but they're all over the place there. Pop in your zip code: http://www.graeters.com/locations.aspx

Help is on the way, Rain Man. Moose Tracks is not a "store brand". That is Denali! Did you know there are now 30 different flavors of Moose Tracks now? I didn't until I checked the website. http://www.moosetracks.com/

I know! I've had it "fresh" at one of their Louisville stores. I've also figured out already that the Publix does a better job than Winn Dixie. It seems it's melted and refrozen from Winn Dixie...

Breyers vanilla (and any other vanilla/rasberry ice cream that contains "natural flavors") has this...from a Beaver's rectus -

In the United States, Castoreum has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a food additive,[12] often referenced simply as a "natural flavoring" in the product's list of ingredients. It is commonly used in both food and beverages, especially as vanilla and raspberry flavoring.[13]
